Há três décadas, Pipilotti Rist vem reinventando a relação entre a videoarte e o corpo humano por meio de campos hipnóticos de toque e cor. A artista suíça desembarcou recentemente no UCCA Center for Contemporary Arts, em Beijing, onde apresentou Your Palm is My Universe, sua mais recente mostra solo imersiva.

Com curadoria de Yan Fang, a mostra apresenta um panorama abrangente da prática pioneira de Rist, reunindo obras que consolidaram sua carreira, como “I’m Not the Girl Who Misses Much” (1986) e “You Called Me Jacky” (1990) até trabalhos inéditos, incluindo uma nova instalação de vídeo em grande escala — a maior encomenda já feita pelo museu. Com raízes no pensamento ecológico e na filosofia taoísta, suas criações sensoriais oferecem alternativas poéticas à lógica algorítmica da cultura da imagem.

O ponto central da exposição é “Your Palm is My Universe” (2025), uma instalação inédita que transforma o Great Hall do UCCA em uma atmosfera cinematográfica e onírica. Sequências de mãos, pés e rostos se projetam sobre véus de tecido, enquanto Rist reconstrói o espaço como um “organismo coletivo”, embalado pela paisagem sonora ambiental de Surma. A obra confronta constelações da realidade corporal à medida que luz e som reverberam pelo salão.

Além da instalação que dá título à mostra, o “Heaven on Earth” mural e “Spring Chaoyang Chandelier” de maiôs cor-de-rosa aprofundam essa investigação do corpo individual-coletivo, atravessando códigos sociais, intimidade e apresentação pública.

Rist, cuja obra há tempos reflete sobre vulnerabilidade, inocência e o peso emocional da vida moderna, cria um universo luminoso que encontra encantamento em meio ao caos da sobrecarga de informações. Em comunicado recente, o museu afirmou: “Esta exposição é um reflexo hipnótico e vívido da visão duradoura de Rist da arte como um espaço onde empatia, renovação e imaginação ganham vida para uma existência corpórea.”

A mostra segue em cartaz em Beijing até 19 de outubro.
