[Trials & Triumph] - 2013 Official Discussion Thread

[Quote][URL] I find it hard to believe that your LS's are cut&sew. They look really really well done compared to the last two t-shirts that were posted in this thread. They also have that basic style of any wholesale product. I think you're over valuing your input. Most designs start on paper. Also, most of your designs wouldn't of needed a sketched out version. Making 8 squares and adding a stroke takes 5 minutes to do. Companies hire designers because they work with more complex ideas than you are at the moment. In my opinion there needs to be a immense increase in quality for those prices to be justified. The last two shirts look like they were sewn by someone who hasn't done much sewing before. Judging by the prices and by your general visuals it just seems like you're trying to make it out of the ghetto. In general the whole concept doesn't show much effort put into it.

[Quote]Very interesting textile. The sewing looks extremely sloppy though.

[Trials & Triumph] - 2013 Official Discussion Thread

[Quote]I was unaware that the pieces were cut and sew (apart from the newly added Giovanni's Imminent Revenge). From their cut I assumed that they were standard blanks from wholesale companies. You offer one monochromatic long sleeve t-shirt priced at $172 (Fireworks Under Zantoratia) and another with the same print layout (chest and sleeves) that goes for $326 (Escalado LS). From a screenprint point of view the only major difference between both long sleeve t-shirts would be that the more expensive one features 4 additional colours. How does printing 4 extra colours generate a $154 price increase? Having said all that, I didn't want to bash your business in any way or form. I was simply making some observations and trying to give constructive criticism. Personally, if you're cuts do look standard, why not consider printing on standard/wholesale garments? This would minimize product costs for yourself and ultimately making the price point more attractive for customers. I love the idea of cut & sew garments but as a start up company, I believe it would be wiser to offer products at an affordable price until you have gained a significant fan base that would safely allow you to order small bulk of your cut & sew garments. This would assure that you can benefit from the use of economies of scale and can sale your garments at a more affordable price range. I say all of this because for $180 I've purchased a hand sown 100% cashmere sweatshirt. Paying up to $326 for a 100% cotton long sleeve t-shirt seems like complete nonsense to me as the product is very much inferior to its price.

Prices are a massive shocker. Why are they so insanely high?

Looks good but I'd stay away from standard fonts like you've used for the hoodie and camo t-shirt. I've seen it being used by countless other brands in the same manner.

Looks nice and the price is very very reasonable. Is the shiny material genuine leather?

How do you justify a 149$ price tag for a beanie? That's insane.

[Quote]I don't know too much about streetwear, the only "real" connection I've had with it was through skateboarding. Having that said, the design doesn't tell me much about it either. The term "ignorance is bliss" originated from one of Thomas Grey's poems: "No more; where ignorance is bliss, 'Tis folly to be wise." As you might be able to read out, the verse depicts that a lack a knowledge results in happiness or a more comfortable life. You do mention parody but again I'm unsure - are you parodying yourself/your brand to be ignorant even if you describe yourself to be well educated in streetwear or are you parodying the consumers ignorance for buying anything to be part of the streetwear scene? In my opinion the design lacks a foundation that would enable me to clearly understand it. I think it also lacks a bit of effort. For one, the photograph you used was probably not taken by yourself but by a photographer (I might have seen it on Tumblr actually). So you're plagiarizing someone elses work for profit. Secondly, I think there's a very poor effort at Typography, which is sad because that's your only real input for the design. Lastly, I also want to point out that the price is too steep for a product that lacks input. Now, to conclude I want to mention that this was purely to give productive criticism that might enable you to be more successful with your next drop and not to hate or bash your ideas.

I like the prices. All over printed shirts are normally really overpriced. I'm interested though, do you purchase the licenses for the pictures printed? I'm also interested in the sculpture head pattern you guys show in the first slide, any further infos?

Not really feeling the t-shirt but this comic strip is cool. Really nice illustrations, it shows that you have a lot of talent. I'd say keep at it! Much success
