Here are detail shots of the 1st runner up in the Red Core Fading contest. See the full results here: http://www.nakedandfamousdenim.com/blog/fading-contest-2-results/ They are different than the contest submission photos, they put a 5MB cap on submission emails so I was kind of handcuffed on detail shots. I also post as CharlieHustle on RAWR if they look familiar. Shout out to my hater. You know who you are, you piggly armed son of a bitch. [Quote] The Grey's fade to light almost white color over time. They are extremely soft and luxurious after a couple of washes but if you want high contrast fades you're really going to have to beat them up and hold out that first wash for as long as possible. My pair fits slightly slimmer than most my other weird guys. They are very difficult to photograph (a flash will wash out any contrast, same with direct sun, etc.) and I have seen very few pics on the web of any faded pairs. This is the only pic of mine that I have uploaded to my Flikr account and it isn't too great. This pic is true to color though, and if you compare and contrast with your new pair you'll see that the color lightens significantly after some wear and wash. [URL], on Flickr

@tooawesome, awesome, thanks! Love the gashes and soot-like scrapes. You gotta have balls to take those out past a few months from the looks of things. Would love to be a fly on the wall for explanation conversations on those. I'll spend some time walking back for pics of the franks.

Has anyone in the history of fashion forums seen a broken in pair of the reverse fades? I post here, and lurk on SUFU and SF and havent seen anything but some initial scrapes and wallet fades...Same thing with the frankensteins. Would love to see a turned out pair of those. Ditto for the grey casts. I own a pair, and have posted pics of them (retired, but not from wear, too tight), but still havent seen a dirty rotten pair and they've been in circulation since NF got started. Seems like the pics have been flowing more freely here lately though, good shit. I'm still geeking out over those "non-fading" regular Indigos RevYouUP posted a few pages back. Patience is a virtue, he proved it.

[Quote] I have no experience with starch. My creases are tight cause I sit a lot. Those deeps have a commuter crease on the left leg from where I used to sit in traffic 45 min to 1 hour a day with my left leg bent at the knee. Flash is on for my pics, so contrast is slightly exaggerated which may give that impression as well. I have no basis for comparison though. Not sure what starchy jeans look like.

I noticed where Mistabah-notmyfrienda has not treated anybody but me like shit over the past couple of weeks, so I'm assuming my long-winded diatribes have had their intended effect (big words rule!). In retribution, I offer pics. Here are my Deep Indigos (200smokeyface vs my E1's (bought on restock/warehouse sale from Jay Blueowl I'm guessing a little over a year ago). Needless to say, the E1's and the heavier NF cuts fade much faster than the Deeps (depending of course on the time you put into them). Flash is on in all these pics, so take of that what you will. [Quote] LOL. Mistahdabolina, I aint going to internet argue with you anymore because it is childish. But this was funny. To anyone random out there looking for advice. Listening to me, or anyone else, is foolish. The only way you will find your way into the right pair of NF (or any raw denim) is through trial and error, or through Jay at blue owl (provided you already have a favorite pair of jeans to guide him by). True story. Between personal style and cut preference, and a thousand other factors, wash and fit advice is only good to a certain degree. You have to take many factors into consideration, and the next guy will only have his experience in mind. The best advice is to start cheap and play around until you know what you like. Once you get past the right fit, you need to worry about wash. Again, this is trial and error. Hot soak, cold soak, ocean soak, ball sweat soak; it all depends on the activity you put into them and how hard you live. By "depends" I mean it is up to you to find out how you like your shit and how you want to carry it. It might take a couple of pairs to figure out the angle to your dangle. I have put three of my friends into NF cuts and styles that they love. All three times my advice for fabric has come to personal preference, and for fit I have sent them to Blue Owl because Jay has it down. All the advice you need in one post. Decide what fabric you want and go to the pros for sizing. If you're the type of dude who has to see the fabrics to decide or has to try everything on, get off your butt and go see them or TRIAL and ERROR your shit, like everyone else. There's one thing that has held true throughout my adventures with NF, the fit on every fabric is different, regardless of cut.

[Quote] Slow down "Kanye-minus--caps-lock", I do write professionally, and not on some fake-internet-gangster-wannabe-playboy-bullshit. Hate all you want because I drew the line at spending on fucking jeans at NF, especially given it doesn't appear that you can put a competent sentence together...son. You sound ridiculous. Why do you come here if you think the brand is low-rent? I'll answer that for you; this forum thing is a competition to you, keeping up with the Joneses, ballin out of control. In order to win, you gotta find somebody to lose. I got past that mentality when you were still a twinkle in you daddy's eye. I like NF because of the variety of fabrics and cuts. And you might be right, and maybe I can't justify spending more than the "cheap price" of 100 to 200 per pair on a pair of jeans, and maybe I just havent experienced sherpa denim hand woven by bedouins, but I'm at the point in my life where making the choice between NF and and all that bullshit is possible, but not in the least bit important to my identity. I'm cool with that, it is why I come pretty much strictly to this thread. You see, it is not that I can't afford to wear higher end denim, it's that I just dont really give a fuck about being pretentious cunt these days and instead want something fun and affordable. It's about priorities.

[Quote] I do initial presoaks and the reason I have 10 pairs is because I live in a seasonal region and work in an office; some of them (shockingly) get a lot more wear than others. I only wear my Ducks when I need a casual pant; I only wear the Hound’s Tooth Weird Guys when it's cold as fuck out; I only wear my Broken-Twill Slim Guys with boots, and the E1 WG with low-cut sneakers; I only wear my Kevlars Slim Guys when I'm shooting guns and wearing boots (for obvious reasons); I only bought the Red-Wefts (my most beat up pair of jeans) to wear in a Halloween Spiderman outfit; I bought the Raised Selvage Slim Guys a size up to wear over the pair of Weird Guy Greycasts that I fuck bitches in; two button fly thickness so I’m just a little bit less insistent on smashing the cervix, you may know how that goes. Most of that above paragraph is bullshit but you get my point, I change my shit up; I have to. I work in an office, and can't show up with smelly dirty jeans so I soak first, and I soak often; usually hot. But I do put in work on my jeans (and fade them well) regardless of what you deem the appropriate length of wear. I know all about hot soaking and it's effects. I never did cold soaks cause I never gave a fuck; dirty jeans are dirty jeans, you wash them or you're a fucking hobo. I get that mentality; get ‘em clean and fuck the Nudies six-month marketing ploy and the web fan-boys that trumpet its supremacy. However, it has been my experience that when you work in an office and you don’t want to lose your creases, after you've already soaked previously, a hot-soak is the worst way to go; especially two months in when you're looking to clear odors but maintain raw properties. I didn’t want or need hot-soak or pre-soak advice; I'd received it (because I read) and followed it (with mixed success on many other pairs) but wanted to see what kind of damage I could do with only controlled cold soaks. I'm not trying to go swag-to-swag with you, so you'll have to excuse me for getting uppity, but don't get after me on some "go up in quality" bullshit when you don't know shit about me. I live in the most expensive area in the country from a cost-of-living perspective other than San Francisco and NYC; I make monthly payments that would make a lot of these cats blow a vagina shaped fade in their jeans, and I still spend what I want on denim and my other hobbies as well as saving redundantly for the future. I define living large and living within your means and I’m damn proud of that. Self-made. Your complete agreement with the guy who you quoted, who said, "it's not like they're unsanforized or anything" directly contradicts your flippant post suggesting that I'm a retard for not presoaking (which I did). If that is completely true then a pre-soak wouldn’t matter. If what you state is true, and NF's quality is the difference, why the hell are you here passing out advice for an inferior quality brand? It might be the right advice for your "high-end" steez. But down here, it may not apply. Check my post history on here if you'd like. I've put in some work on some denim. I don’t get usually get in dick measuring contests or caught up in braggadocio, but I'll take an exception (I obviously already have). Peep my post history; call out my shit. I will take the Pepsi challenge. Bottom line is your experience will always be different from mine, and I was looking for advice from cold soakers strictly because I haven’t given a fuck about water temp until recently and instead I got some "jawnz–gawd-forum-diddy-bopper-bullshit” advice from you. Thanks but no thanks. A few pages ago you tore open a guy who wanted to size up to find his proper fit in the skinny guys...which is not bad advice if you have the right body type. I shouldn’t need to say more so I won’t, other than this: I write professionally, so please don’t flatter yourself and think this took longer than twenty minutes.

[Quote] This is shitty advice. I own over ten pairs of NF and have been wearing the brand almost from when they launched. Previous hot soaks previously caused my stacks and comb fades to shift and they didnt "come back" in the same shape or area they had previously set in but in a few areas. Sanforized or unsanforized, soaking cotton in water leads to shrinkage and removal of creases avoidance of which was my goal. Take your snark on somewhere else cool guy.

Soaking just the top block of my red cores in a bucket of ice water right now and a dash of detergent. Just up to the crotch with the legs hanging free. I moved recently and wore them through the move. They stink, but I want to keep my stacks and combs intact. Anyone have any success using similar tactics? Advice? I dampened them and froze them first, figuring if I only kept them in there for 15 minutes or so that the water wouldnt be able to soak up the legs.
