[ARTESOUL] - 2013 Official Discussion Thread

^ I'm actually doing a F/W 2013, and am looking at a drop sometime in October. However, I'm sorry to say that it will be a part II of this 'LUXURETAIL' collection. Despite the feedback here, I've had a lot of success with this collection. And in all honesty, I just want to get these parodies off my chest before the end of this year; then I'll be focusing directly on original designs which will push my brand both artistically, as well as aesthetically. Btw, thank you for the question & comment. Feels like a breath of fresh air clearing the shroud of hate I've been getting lately. I really appreciate it.

[Quote]I think we can all agree that $600 for a GIVENCHY t-shirt retail is quite ridiculous. Even for people who can afford these high-end brands, I'm sure a lot of people will agree that it's excessive. And why do you keep bringing up the same things everyone else has been saying? You must not know how to read... I've explained myself about the whole concept of parodies, and why I'm doing them right now, so look back at my comments. To summarize, this is what I want to do with my brand at the moment. If you have a problem with it, or think it's garbage... Don't buy it. Simple as that. lol. You make it sound like I'm forcing you all to buy my brand or something, which is hilarious, considering how much you guys keep bantering me, and saying the same things over & over. Come back to me if you have something new & interesting to add to this discussion. And to say that I'm a horrible business person is a horrible assumption from a criticizing individual such as yourself. You have no knowledge of how I conduct business, and how I treat my customers. All you see is how sarcastic I can be towards people who have nothing to offer me but hate. It's all about respect. Respect me, and I'll respect you. And who's to say how Jebbia or Stussy acted when they first started out. This industry has changed a lot from when they first started, and everything is viral, with everyone thinking they're a critic in their own right, (i.e. you). And I know I have a lot to learn. I've just started my brand. But no matter what you say, or anyone else says for that matter about my brand... It's not up to you guys what I can and can't do. This is my brand. And I'm putting out designs that I want to put out. I can say a lot more, but I need to get on with my day. And at the end of the day, "I'm sorry you feel that way, but have a NICE day."

^ And how would you handle it? With a thank you and a smile? Please. I'm no push over. And I don't take shit from anyone. I'm not gonna stand around saying nothing, while letting people bash my brand. My whole logic is, if you throw the first punch, expect a fight. And I'm sorry you feel that way, but I only seem that way because of my sarcasm, and it's only directed towards the insulting disrespectful people who have nothing better to do than hate. It's not a reflection of my brand at all, unless you look to the passion aspect, and can see that as passionately as I'll fight for & defend my brand, that's exactly the same amount of passion I have put into the work I do for my brand. After all, I'm just a one man brand with no one except myself doing everything from the design work, to the production sourcing, to the product screening, to the packing & shipping, marketing, etc. And I didn't contradict myself. To further explain what I meant, if someone comes to me with no respect, they'll get just that. And to those who show respect, like Yojetplane, they'll get my respect. In a way, insults are like someone spitting in your face. No respect. So how can you tell me I should show them respect by shaking their hand after they spit in my face? I can see where you're coming from though, but 'm sorry, I'm no Ghandi, nor a pacifist.

[Quote]I'm sorry, but who was it that said, and I quote... "Do you honestly think that those brands that you listed really made their way up by copy and pasting high end logos on shirts with subtle tweaks here and there." lol. Seriously though, at the end of the day, this is my brand, and I'm not here to make designs/tees that you want. I'm doing what I want, and what I like. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Simple as that. As I said before, my brand isn't for everyone. And like I keep saying, I'm only doing these parodies now because I'm under the radar. I have a lot more ideas for original designs in the future. And please, if you don't think the wordplay is witty/creative, then I guess you don't have a sense of wit or humor. And again, your eyes must be only drawn to images, and you must not read very often, or can't/won't for the sake of yourself. The YSL design is an homage to the designer, Yves Saint Laurent. I'm not sure if you know, probably not, that the name of his fashion house was changed under the new creative director, Hedi Slimane. It went from Yves Saint Laurent (the full designer's name), to Saint Laurent Paris. And as an artist/designer myself, I'd hate to see the name of my brand/label change, even if I'm dead and gone. Many people across the world were shocked and appalled at the name change, including myself, which is why I came up with the design. And for that last comment, I'm well aware of the fact that not everyone can afford luxury brands. I myself think their prices are ridiculous. However, I'm not looking to be a full on luxury brand, or a full on streetwear brand. I want to bridge that gap, staying right in the middle of it all fashion wise, and making clean pieces with materials of great quality. Trust me when I say this, there are brands out there doing parodies & such, putting less thought to their designs/lack of design work, printing on lesser quality tees, who are pricing their products much higher than mine. And just to reiterate, I'm just doing what I want to do. If you have a problem with it, by all means, start your own brand, and get out here.

[Quote]Apparently you don't know what you're talking about, and have no knowledge of streetwear whatsoever. lol. You should do your research before making ASSumptions. Stussy flipped Chanel & Gucci logos for design work under their brand way back when. Supreme's box logo is a rip-off of artist Barbara Kruger's work, and they've done tweaks of Prada, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, etc. and that's only mentioning their box logo tees. HUF used LV damier print on their hats & tees. Diamond Supply Co.'s whole image & branding was based off of Tiffany & Co. colorway & all. And SSUR has been throwing out a lot of parodies lately, namely the COMME des GARCONS flip which put them on the map as of late. And fine, you don't like the designs. As I said to someone before you, my brand isn't for everyone. My target audience is not for the typical streetwear person. I'm looking above towards people who have more knowledge of high-end fashion brands, and can appreciate the subtle logo tweaks & witty wordplay. And obviously you're only looking at the logo of the LV design. lol. You need to look beyond the logo to understand why I changed it to read "Loucrative Vuillainy", it's a play on words shedding light on the fact that these high-end luxury brands are ridiculously lucrative to the point where it's almost villainous, and in this worldwide recession we're all in no less, with prices of gold & silver escalating as well. That was the point I was trying to get across. Not just slapping the LV logo on a tee as a bootleg. These tees are parodies. I think you better look the word up in the dictionary to get a better understanding of the term. And I'm sorry, but you have to show respect to get respect. And as I've learned in the past, haters just gon' hate. You can educate a hater, but at the end of the day, they're still gonna hate. And a hater is not a "prospective customer" as you non-eloquently put it. A hater wants nothing more than to see that brand fail. And as for the comment about how he can't afford a $50 tee. I'm glad you got the joke and can laugh about it too. lol.

[Quote]Respect does go a long way. And it's safe to say that hating is a form of disrespect. I just showed them the same amount of respect they showed me. It's not childish, or temperamental. I'm just defending my brand. And I'm sure anyone in my position would do the same.

[Quote]True. My tees aren't for everyone. But fyi, I've shipped out orders worldwide, from London, to Paris, all over the UK, China, Japan, Australia, Spain, Canada, and all across the US, from LA to NY, and everywhere in between. I sold out of a lot of the colorways/designs, which is why I did a re-stock. I'll check out KTT though. Thanks for the advice.

^ Thank you. I appreciate the compliment. And true, I'm not going to be just doing parodies every season. In all honesty, I'm only doing these parodies/wordplay flips now because I'm a small brand at the moment, and under the radar (so I won't be getting any cease & desists/lawsuits). And thank you for the feature! If you can tag me @_artesoul I'll definitely check it out. Thanks again, and take care!

[Quote]^ You say it's "played out", yet you would buy one if it was $20? lol. Why are you contradicting yourself? And I'm sorry you can't afford it, but I've priced my tees as such because of the material I use (100% ring-spun combed cotton, which is much softer to the touch, and lightweight compared to scratchy, heavy basic streetwear tees), and the printing quality & techniques. And fyi, I'm hardly ever on twitter. I have more followers on other social media sites. And besides, every brand starts with just one follower.

^ The concept of parodies have been around since the beginning of streetwear. I'm just doing my take on it, with a more refined approach to the design work, and an emphasis on witty wordplay, unlike other brands who basically just chop & screw (up) these logos with no basis or message behind the design.
