《Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3》導演 James Gunn 確認本片將會是三部曲最終章，而這也意味著未來大家或將無法再看見 Guardians of the Galaxy 的成員們出現在 MCU 之中。
《Guardians of the Galaxy》（星際異攻隊/銀河護衛隊/銀河守護隊）於 2014 年首次登場在 MCU，以星爵 Star-Lord（Chris Pratt 飾）、 Gamora（Zoe Saldana 飾）、Drax the Destroyer（Dave Bautista 飾）、Rocket Racoon（ Bradley Cooper 飾）與 Groot（Vin Diesel 飾）等五人為首的團隊。續集則在 2017 年上映，並在《Avengers: Infinity War》與 《Avengers: Endgame》中扮演重要的角色。
如今，第三集在經歷千迴路轉之後仍由 James Gunn 回歸執導，導演近期在 Deadline 的 Podcast 節目 Hero Nation 中表示：「這將會是我們的最終章，也會是人們最後一次看到 Guardians of the Galaxy 這支團隊。本片的規模相當龐大且十分黑暗，或許會與大眾想像的有所不同。我忠於每個角色與故事，給予大家應有的故事結尾，這有點可怕，但我會盡我所能。」
“It’s big; it’s so, so big and dark, and different from what people might be expecting it to be.
I just want to be true to the characters, the story and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story. That’s always a little bit scary; I’m doing my best.”
