Culty Californian fashion designer Rick Owens has been creating covetable pieces with a rebellious rock ’n’ roll aesthetic since 2002, when his debut collection won acclaim for its elevated grunge style. Owens’ specialism lies in leather and his jackets have become high-end essentials that transcend subcultures thanks to their sharp cuts and heavy-duty embellishments. In September this year he launched a new flagship store in Downtown Manhattan, with his wife and muse Michele Lamy taking control of designing the 6,000-square-foot space that houses Owens’s ready-to-wear men’s and women’s collections as well as his DRKSHDW staples, Lamy’s Hunrod jewelry and his avant-garde footwear created for adidas. A further drop of futuristic sneakers in February 2017 – the High Level Runner and the Runner Level Low – continues his partnership with adidas and is set to further cement his position as one of streetwear’s major players.
