Kim Jones is currently the Artistic Director of Men’s Ready-to-Wear at Louis Vuitton after stints at Dunhill and Alexander McQueen. A Central St. Martins graduate, he has the distinction of having half his 2002 graduate collection bought by John Galliano, which led to the designer launching his eponymous label later that year.
Louis Vuitton is the most valuable luxury goods brand in the world, valued at $27.3 billion USD as of May 2016, and Jones has successfully helmed the menswear side of the label for five years and, in a fashion world where creative directors are fired after one unsuccessful season, this is no mean feat. Thanks to Jones’s influence, Vuitton also quietly works with several well-respected designers, such as when they collaborated with Japanese brand Kapital for several Boro-inspired pieces or with AMBUSH on jewellery.
Prior to Vuitton, Jones ran his own line, showing his first collection in London in September 2003 before showing at Paris fashion week in July 2004. The two-time BFC menswear design winner, who picked up awards in 2006 and 2009, also produced capsule collections for Umbro, Uniqlo and Mulberry amongst others. In 2008 he became creative director of men’s luxury goods specialists Dunhill, working there for three years before taking on the style director role at Louis Vuitton.
