Hypebeast Magazine unveils issue 28: The Ignition Issue

Hypebeast Magazine launches its 28th edition with the theme Ignition — an internal combustion and energy ready to burst with self-motivation. The issue catches a glimpse at those who are currently sparking new ideas and/or igniting changes in their own ways. We explore the personal stories and adventures of a diverse group of talents, including Tame Impala, designer Duran Lantink, and artist Robert Nava.

Fresh from capturing the internet’s attention with his celebrated Balenciaga sofa that debuted in December 2019 at Design Miami, Hypebeast Magazine and designer/architect Harry Nuriev team up to create the unique cover rendering for The Ignition Issue. Nuriev produced three separate covers that join together to depict one room featuring some of his most iconic pieces. True to his novel forms, Nuriev took inspiration from the iconic neon and grey colorway of the Nike Air Max 95 and altered a space on photoshop that resulted in a vibrant triptych.

In conversation, Nuriev reveals the processes behind his designs, the importance of color, his determination for sustainability, the remembrance of our past, and looking ahead with new concepts and ideas.

“When we see something we remember from our past, even vaguely, we trust it more than a completely new shape. It doesn’t mean the new shape is bad—like Tesla’s Cybertruck, which I love,” Nuriev elaborates, “but there’s something to be said about how people spend so much time traveling to areas like Rome to see archeology sites and ruins. When we see destroyed structures or exposed materials, we feel human. It’s a naked and honest experience that we relate to most.”

Hypebeast Magazine Issue 28: The Ignition will be available on hbx.com and select stores beginning February 26th, 2020, for the retail price of $18 USD.
