Official Laptop/Computer Discussion Thread

My friend got the 17" Samsung Chronos about two to three months ago. ~$1300CDN + taxes. Comes with an i7, 8GB RAM, 640GB spinning disc, I forget the GPU. It's a pretty solid laptop spec-wise, but it was brutally laggy out of the box. Sammy crammed it full of bloatware, both proprietary and non. Did a full wipe and fresh install of W7 Ultimate and now it runs fairly well. I really hate W7 as of late, especially on this computer. It'd be great if it had Ubuntu as the main OS and booted W7/OSX for Adobe products. It's got specs on par with the higher end MBPs', for the price of the entry-level models, it looks nice too, but it definitely requires tinkering.

Yes they are by far. You get a USB hub if you use alternate power supply as using cooler without it drains battery like crazy. And most can be USB powered. I use this one for my Windows laptop but I am sure it works with your macbook.

It can be ran on different levels to what you want. But yes that one is pretty big. If you have a Microcenter near you I suggest going there and checking them all out. Or going to their online store. As there as hundreds you can buy. Cooler Master generally makes the best ones for totally cooling.

What are the odds that you'd be able to do what's required to 'activate' a cracked copy if you don't even know where to look?

skyrim is maxing out my VRAM after heavy modding and ENB tweaking. now crashing it to desktop once it spikes on the VRAM. thinking of upgrading to GTX 670 4GB. that or SLI with another GTX 570. I get constant 40+ fps with the 2k hd textures, lighting and various other graphic mods (about 106+ mods installed through workshop and 10 through nexus). its just the vram limitations are causing it to crash.

so if anyone of you guys is willing to buy my GTX 570 HD OC 1.2GB then I'll just upgrade. taking a huge loss but its electronics, no resale value.

ASUS Zenbook UX21(11.6") or UX31(13.3")

They're the older models, but they are still more than capable ultrabooks. The UX21 with an i7 is just under(~799-899) your 1k limit, but i5 variations of both can be found a lot of places for ~$700. I think the 13.3" got better reviews as far as the screen goes.

Does anyone have a mobile workstation and could give me a quick rundown of these questions:
How does it feel lugging it around with you?
How is the battery life?
Cooling compared to pro consumer laptops?
How quiet are they as I might be using this for when I record friends in music programs as well?

Wide screen gaming lul and portrait monitor is for monitoring temps and speeds and keeping all my shortcuts. I actually use it for productivity as well, I do a lot of spread sheets docs and auto cad for school/work. But if it was a full work rig all my monitors would be portrait

Awesome setup above.

I've seen finance people have 8 portrait monitors. Fucking crazy.

the screen. its a 2560 x 1700 ips panel
guess how much a 2560 x 1600 resolution monitor costs. I've never seen one for less than 1000. now add the pc parts.

but you do get One terabyte of Google Drive cloud storage, free for 3 years, which costs bout $1800. for 1200 and what you get. its a fucking steal really.
