Raimi says Spider-Man 4 is Up to Writer

Comic Book Resources has posted an interview with "Spider-Man" franchise director Sam Raimi in which he reiterates that what happens in the fourth installment will be up to the writer they are hiring, including the villain(s). Here's a bit from the piece:

Sam: If I was writing it I would have a very strong opinion about that, but we're hiring a writer to come up with his own take. Sony was willing to go either way, we'll just have to wait and see what the writer comes up with. I think anything's possible, though.

I mean, there's been so many different versions, it doesn't have to follow the movies that we've made. I'd very much like to see Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, so I have a personal interest in that, but certainly anything's possible. Spider-Man's such a big character in the comic books that he could endure a lot of different interpretations. You could start over or you could start with a different aspect of the story than I've focused on in the pictures I've made, we'll just have to wait and see what the writer comes up with.

Seth Rogen Buffs Up (Sort Of) To Fit Into The Green Hornet's Trench Coat
Heavyweight actors like George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Jake Gyllenhaal all flirted with the project, so when it was the literally heavyweight star of "Knocked Up" who was ultimately tapped to bring the iconic Green Hornet to the big screen, it was as if millions of fanboys cried out in terror: "Seth Rogen as Britt Reid? Say what?"

"[The fan reaction] was a little surprising. I love the idea! I think it's going to be a unique and interesting movie," the jocular always-self-deprecating Rogen announced, before adding with a laugh, "but nerds love complaining. You go on [the Web site for] Ain't It Cool News, and everybody complains about everything. They could find out Jesus Christ was making a movie with Frank Miller, and they'd say, 'That's a terrible combination!' "

In all fairness, Frank Miller announcing "Jerusalem: The Real Sin City" might be only slightly more bizarre than Rogen as a costumed super. But, then, his "Green Hornet" will be like no superhero movie we've ever seen before, the 25-year-old star insisted.

"Just a few weeks ago, [co-writer Evan Goldberg and I] laid out our outline for the movie to the studio, and before the phone call, Evan and I were like, 'This is not like any superhero movie

According to a report in Variety today, the Batman Begins star will play the human resistance fighter leading the battle against Skynet in the 4th instalment of the franchise, entitled Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

The production is set to be helmed by McG, who previously directed the Charlie's Angels films. Little is known about the plot at present, although the pic has been described as a "reboot" of the franchise -- the first in a new series of films set to chronicle the war between humanity and Skynet.

There has been speculation linking Bale to the project for several weeks, with the star also rumoured to have been considered for the role of a terminator. The John Connor character was previously played by Edward Furlong in T2 and Nick Stahl in T3.

Arnold Swarzenegger, who made his name starring in the first three Terminator films, is not attached to the project at present.

Frank Marshall on Indy 4... and Bourne 4???
Producer Frank Marshall has earned his reputation from working in the movie business for over 35 years, mostly working with Steven Spielberg on movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Amblin films, but also having huge hits on his own with blockbusters like The Sixth Sense and more recently, the Jason Bourne trilogy.

While we were talking to Mr. Marshall about The Bourne Ultimatum, we wondered whether there was any serious possibility about a fourth movie, after Matt Damon has told reporters in recent months that he's reticent about returning. "There were only three books written. I know they've written a fourth but it wasn't written by Ludlum," Marshall said. "Look, we would love to continue the franchise. We just need a great story, and we're not going to do it unless we have a great story, but we are working on coming up with one, and Matt said to me,

Singleton Confirmed for The A-Team
Director John Singleton has confirmed to BlackVoices.com a rumor that first appeared at LatinoReview.com and IESB.net - he is directing the big screen adaptation of TV series "The A-Team."

The series, which ran from 1983-87 and starred George Peppard, Mr. T, Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz, followed an unofficial team of Vietnam vets who will stop at nothing to get the bad guys. Sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit, these four commandos escaped from a maximum-security stockade and now survive in the Los Angeles underground as soldiers of fortune.

Thew new version will be updated from the Vietnam era and reflect contemporary issues and politics. Stephen J. Cannell, who created the show, will produce the movie with Spike Seldin. Mark Silvestri will executive produce.

Singleton added that he will not be directing Executive Order: Six, as was previously reported.

No Sam Raimi for Spider-Man 4?

Well, the big news has finally hit this morning -- Peter Jackson will produce (not direct) The Hobbit and a sequel to The Hobbit. Full details can be found here.

If Raimi decides to helm "The Hobbit" films instead, we would assume he would still be involved with the Spidey franchise in some capacity, probably as an executive producer.

Again, this is just speculation and nothing is certain.

Dwight Little Helming Tekken

Dwight Little has been set to direct Tekken, a futuristic martial arts action film based on the best-selling Japanese video game from Namco, reports Variety.

Crystal Sky Pictures is financing the film, which begins production Feb. 4 in Shreveport, La. CSP's Steven Paul and Benedict Carver will produce. Alan McElroy wrote the script.

Little, who last directed Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid and Murder at 1600, has directed martial arts pics before, including Rapid Fire, starring Brandon Lee, and the Steven Seagal starrer Marked for Death.

"The film plays out as a science fiction story set in the near future, about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people," Little said. "It's a gladiator story, but the videogame has a complicated enough storyline that it provides the template for a martial arts spectacular."

Sam Raimi Will Drag You to Hell
After helming three "Spider-Man" films, Sam Raimi will return to his genre roots to direct Drag Me to Hell, a supernatural thriller he wrote with his brother, Ivan Raimi.

According to Variety, the morality tale about the unwitting recipient of a supernatural curse will go into production early next year. It will be financed through Ghost House Pictures, a joint venture Raimi and Rob Tapert formed several years ago with Mandate Pictures.

Raimi and Tapert will produce with Grant Curtis, and Josh Donen will executive produce with Mandate's Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake.

Tapert said the Raimis penned the script well before the formation of Ghost House. It was originally written under the title "The Curse" and completed right after the siblings collaborated on 1992's Army of Darkness, which Sam Raimi directed.

"Sam calls it a 'spook-a-blast,' a wild ride with all the chills and spills that 'Evil Dead' delivered, without relying on the excessive violence of that film," Tapert said. "When one has done three very expensive movies, they get used to eating caviar. Sam will have to ponder what it means to come down from the mountaintop for a moment."

After Drag Me to Hell, Raimi is expected to take the helm of "The Hobbit" films for New Line and MGM now that Peter Jackson has made it clear he won't direct.
