6-Minute Dark Knight Rises Prologue with Mission: Impossible?

Possibly a similar situation as The Dark Knight Film has posted an interesting rumor that Warner Bros. Pictures is planning on showing a six-minute prologue for The Dark Knight Rises with Paramount Pictures' early release of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol in IMAX theaters on December 16 (the film has its general release on Dec. 21).

It would be a similar situation as The Dark Knight, from which Warner Bros. attached the opening sequence to the Will Smith hit I Am Legend in IMAX theaters in December of 2007.

We should be seeing a press release about this soon if this is indeed confirmed. We're also assuming a new trailer for The Dark Knight Rises will be attached to Warner Bros.' own Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows on Dec. 21, but that also is not confirmed yet.

LIES! i am legend was not a hit.

The Dark Knight Rises Prologue Details!

Find out if it will be showing at an IMAX theater near you

Rumored for some time, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that their upcoming Christopher Nolan bat-finale, The Dark Knight Rises, will receive a special prologue before select IMAX screenings of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol beginning December 16th. Details of the event are listed below in the official press release along with a list of the 42 locations that will be offering the six-minute opening:

Warner Bros. Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” — the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy — is one of the most anticipated films of 2012, but moviegoers won’t have to wait until next year to see the six-minute opening sequence of the film. The film’s prologue will be unveiled exclusively in select 70mm IMAX® theatres worldwide. The announcement was made today by Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, and Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, President of International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The Prologue will be released in North America on December 16, and in the UK on December 21, 2011. Additional international dates vary by territory and will be announced soon.

In making the 2008 blockbuster “The Dark Knight,” Nolan was the first to use IMAX® cameras in a major motion picture release, and, as now, audiences were given an advance look at that film’s prologue months prior to the Summer 2008 opening. Nolan employed the extremely high-resolution cameras even more extensively on “The Dark Knight Rises”—including the film’s prologue—to achieve unprecedented crispness and clarity and a truly immersive experience for the moviegoers.

Christopher Nolan stated, “Our experience on ‘The Dark Knight’ shooting and projecting IMAX 15 perf 65mm/70mm film was inspiring. The immersive quality of the image goes beyond any other filmmaking tool available, and in revisiting Gotham, we were determined to shoot even more of the movie in this unique format. Giving the fans an early look at an IMAX sequence is a great way to draw attention to what I believe will be an incredible way to experience our story when it comes out next summer.”

We've Seen The Dark Knight Rises IMAX Prologue

Christopher Nolan hosted a special preview screening tonight

One of the most anticipated films of 2012, The Dark Knight Rises revealed tonight, for the first time anywhere, its six-minute prologue that can be seen before select IMAX screenings of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, beginning December 16th. (Click here to find a participating location near you.)

Introduced by Christopher Nolan himself, the footage was unveiled at Universal City's AMC IMAX and met with rounds of heavy applause. SuperHeroHype was on hand and, while we've been asked to keep the details of the footage relatively light, here's a taste of what you can expect to see next Friday:

Even though the opening is in 35mm, the footage moves immediately to IMAX and the events that transpire during a hostage situation. We get to see Bane and an ensuing fight that takes every advantage of the IMAX frame. Think less The Dark Knight and more Inception or, even closer, an IMAX version of a James Bond film.

In his introduction, Nolan stressed the importance of returning filmgoing to the grandeur that it was for him as a child, warning that said scale, "is being chipped away at in all kinds of ways."
Though the response from the crowd was overwhelmingly positive, there was much discussion about Bane's voice. Muffled by his mask and featuring a British accent, it's difficult to fully understand exactly what he is saying (but likely intentionally).
At the conclusion of the footage, there's a rapid montage of shots, all in IMAX, that features a lot to excite fans.
"I've barely started to edit the rest of the film," Nolan cautioned with a laugh, "so don't ask me what happens at the end or anything like that."

So it begins, The Dark Knight Rises Viral Campaign "Operation Early Bird" starts today.

After The Dark Knight launched its viral “Why So Serious?” campaign way back in 2007, the movie obviously went on to be a smash. How much of that was due in part to alternative marketing is up for debate, but with The Dark Knight Rises just around the corner, it’s no surprise that we might be seeing the beginning of another viral run-up. Recently, The Wrap (via Movie Viral) interviewed Jeff Robinov, the President of Warner Bros. Motion Pictures, who said that the “marketing strategy will definitely evolve” from the previous Batman installment.

Hot on the heels of that quote, Empire and Wired (via Movie Viral) received two separate “CIA documents” concerning a Dr. Leonid Pavel. While that name doesn’t yet ring a bell, readers over at ComingSoon connected Pavel’s mugshot to that of actor Alon Aboutboul, who has a role in The Dark Knight Rises. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but hit the jump to check the documents out just the same. [Update: A new document has been added along with a link to a countdown timer ; you can check them out after the jump.]

Perhaps with all the attention that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is getting with their current viral marketing run, the folks at The Dark Knight Rises wanted to steal some thunder from the “feel bad movie of the holidays.” As you can see below, according to the documents, Pavel (Aboutboul) is a nuclear physicist of Russian descent who specializes in fuel-cycle technology and reactor design; he has gone missing. The edited transcript appears to be between a CIA Station Chief at the US Embassy and a member of the Georgian militia discussing the handover of Dr. Pavel. If there is more written between the lines, I haven’t seen it yet.

Empire is saying that the transcript was given to them as part of a clue to an upcoming event, which of course they can’t discuss. Wired is equally close-lipped, calling their document “a clue to an upcoming cultural event.” Again, there’s been no mention of this being part of The Dark Knight Rises except by some folks who believe the grainy image is Aboutboul (who has nothing current on his IMDb lineup besides some TV work and TDKR). It’s also possible that this is a very small last ditch marketing effort for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which opens 12/16 in IMAX, 12/21 in regular theaters and in which the Russians feature heavily in the plot. Check out the documents below and let us know what you think. We’ll keep an eye out in case anyone slides a clue our way.

I think this will depend heavily if Hatheway can act in this. Heath Ledger made the Dark Knight, it is just a shame we can never bring back the joker now because no one can replace the performance he put on.

anne hathaway is a decent actress from what ive gathered. tho ive never really seen her shit, i think she'll be fine. and this will be the last nolan batman. so we're only missing that version of the joker in one movie. once they reboot batman again in a few years, i'm sure ppl will accept a new joker in a different universe.
