* Raw denim is what you buy when you buy your new 501xx Shrink to Fits. This cotton denim has been completely untreated and unwashed which is why it will shrink so much during the first soak. It has a lighter hue than after the soak.
* Rigid and Dry denim are the same as far as I can tell. They are similar to the soaked STFs. Basically they are still quite stiff and will continue to shrink and change over time with washing but are much closer to the size they will remain. They may be stiff but in no time they will feel quite comfortable. Many jeans companies sell rigid jeans including wrangler for a similar price point and other for considerably more.
* Washed and Pre-washed 501′s have essentially been machine washed before you bought them. They feel like most jeans you have bought and worn in the past.

Originally posted by Inactive UserI would try 1 hot soak for an hour and see how they fit. I've done 2 soaks before and found that the denim loses a lot of the stiffness after a 2nd soak. If it's a nice day out, wear them around when they're wet(not dripping). It'll help with the creasing and you can force the stacks the way you want them.
Pics of my recently soaked STF. Sized down 1, 31x34.

Just got caught in a rain storm...guess I'm on my second soak
also, if i usually wear a like a 31x32 in 514's and 32x32 in 511's what should i get for the stfs?
What type of stf's shrink the most so it looks slim but not as slim as 511's?
and what size should i get if i am a 30x32 with cuffs?

Would you still get the same affect without actually soaking 501stf's? Just wearing them how you bought it.
Originally posted by Inactive UserIt wouldn't be advised to not soak them before you wear them. Firstly, the fit of the jeans will look and feel horrible. Plus you will have to buy a perfect fit size meaning you will never wash the jeans since they shrink very significantly. Also if compensate for a bigger size and wear the jeans and then decide to soak them, your honeycombs and fades will be ruined due to the shrinkage of the jeans.
I do not see any benefits with not soaking the STFs when you purchase them. As a healthy pair of jeans need to be soaked to prevent crotch blow outs. Also when your pair of jeans get dirty, you will definitely want to wash them.
I see. Is there a way to not shrink the waist size? And if I were to size up, I can just go one up from what I usually wear, instead of TTS, right?
I got two pair of stf's ,one indigo and one black pair in 32*36. I soaked the indogos and the inseam shrunk about 4 inches. Should i expect the same from the blacks? I heard black denim doesnt shrink as much...
