Small DENIM Questions Thread

^^ Before Snapples but after wouldn't be bad.

quick question. Should I hem my denim before or after the stacks have settled?

It's probably better to hem them before they've settled but as jozsef said, it doesn't matter too much. Remember to take into consideration shrinkage of the denim when hemming. You don't want to hem them and then find out they're too short after your soak/wash! If your pair is sanforized it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Thanks for the help they're APC's so I'm not to worried about to much shrinkage. thanks again

What can I buy that fits like the PS just isnt quite as skinny? The PS is also slightly to short in the inseam for me. I need something around $200 that is not quite as skinny and longer.
Aug 30, 2011 @ 17:42
try 3sixteen man, they have super nice denim for around the same price as apc's and have a 36inch inseam i believe

is it possible to get the thighs and calves of a jean smaller? like take them to the tailor to get them made smaller?

Yeah, most tailors can taper your jeans to get the thighs and the calves smaller. If you have selvage jeans, make sure that the tailor tapers on the inseam, not the outseam, if you want to preserve the selvage line.

Contemplating on either getting APC PS or Naked&Famous Deep Indigo Skinny. Care to give me your inputs on those 2? Like which ones a better fit, which ones looks better when faded ect ect
Sep 02, 2011 @ 15:37
^ Both are great cuts, but it depends what fit you are going for more. The Ps is very tapered, whereas the skinnyguys are a straight skinny jean all the way down. Apc's seem to fade a lot more than the deep indigo's but that really depends on how much wear and tear you put in them. Quality wise, APC's are made in and manufactured in Macau, and n+f is japanese selvedge made in Canada. So take that into consideration as well. I say it really depends on how you want your jeans to fit, and base your opinion off that
Sep 02, 2011 @ 16:03
^thank you for your input. For N&F deep indigo Skinny how should you size on those. Since ima 32 should i size down/up 1 or go TTS?
Sep 02, 2011 @ 17:37
Hey i just wanted to ask what you guys faded on the back pocket that doesnt hold your wallet...i was thinking about fading my itouch but it'll just look like i had 2 wallets
Sep 03, 2011 @ 00:31
If you like the idea just do it. You will probably be new jeans later whether you like how they fade or not so might as well try something.

What is the difference between the 17cm and 19cm Dior Homme denim? Also, if I wear a tagged size 26 in APC PS what pair of Dior's (size as well) would be the closest to the PS? (If not the same, very slightly loser)
Sep 05, 2011 @ 23:14
17cm and 19cm refer to the leg opening.

$81 selvedge denim: https://www.weargustin.com/invite_from/4200 Karmaloop/Plndr Rep: SLAP20.

Quick question, excuse it because it's probably a dumb one.

Just received these Nudie Grim Tim dark used denim. Now I know that with wear jeans age beautifully. Will these age as well? As in like will the color get lighter at all with wear through time? Like I said, it's a dumb question but I just wanted to know. Thanks in advance!
Sep 07, 2011 @ 23:40
Well they will certainly fade but 'aging beautifully' is more personal.

So I've had a crotch blow on my APCs but I've been wearing em a lot lately. The hole got bigger and i think i want to just get em patched up now.. lmao.

Any of you know of a good place in the bay area (San Francisco/Daly City) that would patch em up for cheap? I was thinking Self edge or Azalea but I'm not really sure if they'd do that
Sep 09, 2011 @ 00:18
definitely do it at selfedge man, they do repairs at the SF one. Not sure how much it is. But better get it done by the best!
Sep 10, 2011 @ 21:21
I guess the only downside or the con that people may see in getting their jeans repaired at SE is the price. But it's true, they do a really awesome job at repairing jeans.

This is a question for you denim enthusiasts. In your opinions, what brand jeans produce the best fades? Nudie or APC?

Also, what's the difference between the Thin Finn dry stretch and the thin Finn Organic dry ecru emb?

Thank you in advance.

Nudies is nowhere worth it's price.
A.P.C's can give great fades, but so do other jeans, it all depends on the wearer.

In a dilemma.

I owned a pair of NS before and I sized down 2. After a little, I felt they were too baggy on me and I never wore them again.

Now I'm interested in getting PS. Should I size down 2 again or should I go 3? I understand they will stretch a lot which is why I'm considering sizing down 3 but I don't want them to be too skinny. I'd maybe like them to fit like the Nudie thin finns.
Sep 12, 2011 @ 23:47
down 2 is pretty tight. if I was to get PS' again I would go down 1
Sep 13, 2011 @ 00:39
Thank you sir.
Sep 14, 2011 @ 01:54
i'm about to do the first hot soak on my momotaros, but they already fit me pretty well on the waist. is it more important to wear them while they're soaking or when they're drying if i want to avoid having them shrink too much?
Sep 14, 2011 @ 02:42
Why don't you try a cold soak, that way you minimize the shrinking. No matter what you do there's gonna be a little shrinking, but I think it would be better to wear them a little bit as they dry. I put my jeans on right after the wash when they were still wet, wore them for a bit, then hung them to dry. And put them back on a couple hours after when they were a little more dry, wore them for a little bit, and let them finished drying. Worked for me, it's a little uncomfortable when they're wet but whatever haha
Sep 14, 2011 @ 03:54
basically i needed to shrink everything else (thighs/leg opening mostly) except the waist. thanks i'll try that out.
Sep 14, 2011 @ 13:47
You could even try soaking the jeans in hot water in a bucket and leave the waist exposed to air so that it won't shrink.
Sep 14, 2011 @ 14:21
whats a suggestion for first denim

i was thinking Unbrandeds then some N&F skinny guys
