Small DENIM Questions Thread

haha just wearing jeans will stop that eventually.
i had my fh's soaked three times, but that never kept it from bleeding.
Just gotta wait it out.

i know raw denim is meant to be worn out and faded BUT i am actually trying to do the opposite with my pair of raw's. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Spray Sizing (heard starch was bad for clothing fibers)? Is it just as bad for your clothes as starch? It is suppose to do the same thing maybe a little weaker so does that mean it is still doing damage but less?

3sixteens for sure.

ask, yelp. ask them questions. It is always a risk. I would just stick with buying new jeans if you can.

Just want to make sure since they contain 1% elastane. My 511s stretched out in the waist 3 sizes and made it really hard to wear so I don't want that happening again.

Another question;
Is it for a fact that any denim containing any elastane will stretch in the waist beyond what it was meant to be? Meaning, elastane are used in the jeans because the fit is so tight that they figured it would give some comfort with some stretchyness but elastane will then cause the waist/butt area stay loose and the legs and calves will still be tight. I read somewhere that someone with Thin Finns had this same effect. Personally, I had this happen in my 511s as many of you guys did (I read a bunch of posts before). So should you always size down if your denim contains elastane?

How do you guys feel about washing your denim for the first time in the ocean?
Any suggestions on how to wash them the right way using this technique?
Aug 04, 2010 @ 13:50
I've never ocean washed mine (yet) but people say to just wear them into the ocean then rub sand all over them then rinse or wash it off later (or else it'll smell bad of course). I hadn't considered rubbing sand on them before but I figure if that's what people do nowadays... lol
Aug 04, 2010 @ 14:06
Thanks but do you know how it will affect the colour/ fades/ fit?
Aug 04, 2010 @ 16:15
i would expect ocean washing will make your jeans look better

How so? Does anyone have any details on ocean washing?
Aug 05, 2010 @ 23:25
Ask dannyshred, I remember he washed his NC's in the ocean.

If I'm correct the salt will keep in the indigo more.

Will the shrink be less cause you are washing them while you are still wearing them? Should you rub sand on them or no?
Aug 06, 2010 @ 12:52
I'm assuming the ocean is probably cold so they would shrink plus your wearing them so shrinking would be limited if they did.
As far as sand I think that is just an option for a different way to agitate the denim.
Aug 06, 2010 @ 13:15
Thank you F/22. It doesn't seem like people have a lot of information on ocean washing so i'm just going to try it out within the next month. I'll let you guys how it goes.
Aug 06, 2010 @ 13:24
You should check out sufu denim forums they have a lot more info on denim than hypebeast
Aug 06, 2010 @ 13:31
Okay thanks, I'll hit that up.

Is it possible to taper a pair of jeans (only 0.5" - 0.75") from the inseam only to avoid messing the selvedge line?
Aug 06, 2010 @ 22:20
I think they do that but it might be somewhat more difficult for them to. I don't really know why though

it is possible just find a good tailor.
Aug 07, 2010 @ 10:27
bombers just tell them to make their adjustments to the inseam instead of the outseam. that way the line is left alone.
Aug 09, 2010 @ 23:20
does anyone know how the quality is on the huf denims?
Aug 10, 2010 @ 00:55
probably not good considering most streetwear brands don't deliver good quality.
Aug 10, 2010 @ 01:24
i hear the hufs fit decent but if you want quality denim, go to a company that focuses on it.

How do you guys suggest soaking/washing/caring for raw denim at university where a tub is not available for soaks and the only washing machines are shitty communal ones?
(ocean washing is an option for me, but i've been advised against it...)
Aug 10, 2010 @ 12:24
buy a cooler

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=ice+cooler&cid=15562103363500128068&ei=EIthTN2ZO5qkiASt1KzpAw&sa=image&ved=0CAgQ8gIwADgA#p

obviously you have to fold your jeans a little for it to fit. I used it to soak my jeans.
Aug 10, 2010 @ 12:30
haha ghetto ass university style! Thats what I like to see!
Also, great idea F/22. Thanks for all your help.
