does anyone have any experience with medium format here? especially the mamiya 645 system?

I found a really cheap Mamiya 645 super with waist level finder and I'm considering buying it, but I don't have much experience with this system, is the 80mm lens a good choice for travel/street stuff?

cheers!

80mm on MF is equivalent to SLR 50mm. So it might be too close for indoors shit but its good. I had a Hasselblad 500cm and solely used an 80mm lens.

Do you guys upload digitally by scanning prints or negatives?
Jan 04, 2015 @ 16:42
I think most scan their negatives or get them scanned and sent to them on a CD by a lab. That's what I do.

After reading reviews, seeing videos and sample shots of damn near all film cameras ever made, I finally decided to buy a Contax G1 with the 28mm biogon lens. Looking forward to trying it out on the streets.

Anybody have any experience with this combo?

This is a good question. In theory scanning prints would be the wrong thing to do since it's considered "2nd generation". Meaning the negatives were first then the prints. So most heads would say scanning the negatives would yield better results. But I've seen very good scans of prints, and if you're just uploading them to the interwebs the difference will be unrecognizable. Also getting good scans of negatives can be quite challenging on your own.

Aye y'all. I don't think I wan't to put any forum stuff on the front page until we at least get an aesthetics upgrade..

but you guys should all put your @instagram tag somewhere that way I can pass images along for our #hboutthere posts on IG

If they are already 1:1 format it would help so that you don't hate me for cropping it from 3:2 blushing

Would love to pick up a 40mm though. 80mm for street might be a bit challenging but still definitely do able.

Yeah, I hear you. At my school they have some scanners built for negatives, so I might get access there. But I think in the future I'll just go with the CD from the developer next time rather than prints.

any tips on developing at home? anything like chemical upkeep, hanging negatives
(i'm starting with b&w development because i can't think of a way to maintain a high temperature for color developing chemicals)

A few scanned prints from my most recent, and probably last roll from my busted Konica FS-1. Next time, I'll go with the CD from the developer but I may try scanning these negatives too.
