Ok it may just be me being a picky digital bitch, but how do you guys get such clean scans? I have a V600 and I use Epson Scan (tried vuescan, but don't even get me started). My scans always seem dull and never sharp, unless I sharpen the shit out of them in photoshop/lightroom. Sorry guys... still somewhat of a film noob.

I use a place that does them for me since I don't have a scanner but this time something's up, must have been something not done right to mine.  I'd like to know as well!

I'm hoping it's just me. I could just suck at scanning, but I may consider taking the model scans (if I shoot models on film) to a pro photo lab as I'd want those to be perfect.

I'm not sure if that was directed towards people with the v6 but I get mine scanned at a lab like hellyeatica. I thank shanklin has one though. I would check some flickr discussions just in case since I know scanning complications are discussed/have been discussed a lot over there.

I've used the scanning feature on my printer but it really doesn't do justice to the pictures so now I just get costco to scan em on a dvd for me, its really not that expensive and much less labor intensive.

Do you have to have a membership at Costco? I know some things you don't is why I'm asking.

I use my parents, you can't do anything without a membership. What do you mean you know some things I don't?

haha sorry chads poor grammar, i mean some things you don't have to have a membership like I think prescriptions you can fill there without one. I just need to break down and get a membership I think, it just sucks when I walk out spending 200 bucks on paper towels and dog food along with a handful of other things I don't need. haha

I feel you, may parents always end up spending 600 on tons of shit when they only woulda spent 200 if we bought what we needed. At my Costco, you gotta show your membership card as you walk in and again when you checkout so you can't do anything without a card

you can usually get rid of the lines by cleaning off the little square guides that are near the top of the scanning bed. there should be two of them; they are little squares of glass. clean them off and you may be better. my scanner used to put a nasty blue line through my shit but cleaning those lines did the trick.

i scan at super high dpi. when flickr something generates a pic, they more data they pull from when they generate their sizes, the better the pics will look (i think at least. this is the principle behind cameras like the F65 or the Penelope Delta, the idea of giving something a "better" pixel).

I also add a layer of smart sharpening to all my pics, which really gives them that edge.

yea i scan as a .tiff at 2400 dpi ,3 times or w/e its called, and 48bit srgb. But i dont use epson scan i use vuescan. Then i use LR to sharpen/color correct

Nov 21, 2013 @ 15:26
^ Gotcha. My workflow usually consists of scanning around 3200 dpi as a negative. I'll invert it in photoshop and color correct there as I find I get the best accuracy doing so. I found it's like editing a RAW vs. JPEG file (in terms of digital).

I'll have to play around with my scanner to see how I can get the best results then, could also be the way I'm loading the film into my scanner.

I scanned that photo of Kendrick on my printer and it didn't look half as good as the scan they did for me at walgreens. Just pay the few extra bucks for the CD super worth it.
