Chris Gibbs‘s
Union has officially revealed its 2020
Jordan Brand footwear collection. An apt follow-up to
2018’s Air Jordan 1 collaborations, Union’s latest offering is two colorful
Air Jordan 4s with unique flip tongues plus a fresh colorway of the
Zoom ‘92 and a new
Delta Mid silhouette.
Arriving in “Guava Ice” and “Off Noir,” Union’s Air Jordan 4s garnered divisive opinions when they first appeared in July due to their non-traditional low tongue. However, this tongue can be unfolded for a more classic look.
Apart from this clever, customizable tongue, each is built from a cornucopia of different suedes and meshes. Thick and plush, the suede selected draws from
Birkenstock sandals while the mesh is fully traditional for a nod to old-school ’80s kicks. “Guava Ice” and “Off Noir” alike continue the “Bred/Storm Blue” and “Neutral Grey/Black Toe” looks of the aforementioned
Air Jordan 1s by mixing black, white red and blue — but use muted versions of all four colors for an alternate look. Translucent “wings” bring in a touch of conceptual style, and yellowed midsoles round the look off.
Elsewhere, the Zoom ‘92 takes on a “Guava Ice” colorway and combines elements of the
Air Jordan 7,
Air Max 180 and Air Force 5 for a hybrid look that’s equal parts past and present. The Delta Mid is a high-cut version of the
Delta and
Delta SP silhouettes that debuted
earlier this year. It’s dressed in “Off Noir” with a mesh and suede upper that features red and blue pops towards the heel. Seamless interiors and thick foam tongues provide comfort, and a React midsole finalizes the look.
An official release date for the Union x Jordan Brand 2020 footwear collection has yet to be announced, but a countdown clock on the
Union webstore indicates an August 29 drop. Retail prices are forthcoming as well.
