Nike‘s rugged Air Max 95 Utility has surfaced in a bold new colorway inspired by Japan’s famed Mt. Fuji. An apt follow-up to last year’s Air Max 95 “Mt. Fuji,” this winterized style draws from the sky-high summit in a bold new fashion.

Heavily layered uppers are dressed almost entirely in a vibrant “University Red” hue and use rugged water-resistant synthetics on their anatomy-inspired side panels. Suede is added to the toe cap for a touch of elegance, and the hi-vis heel piece takes on special AM95 Utility branding reminiscent of something you’d expect to see on modern-day Nike ACG products.

All these warm red hues are broken up in cool fashion by “Bright Spruce” embellishments on the oval tongue badge, collar and heel’s small embroidered Swoosh. Flecked flat laces add an interesting texture as well: the 95’s circular lace loops are usually filled by more trim oval laces.

On the lower half, a white EVA foam midsole encases “Blue Spruce” Air Max cushioning units in both the forefoot and heel. Translucent outsoles feature a thicker forefoot tread and a toothed pattern on the heel for enhanced grip in inclement weather. A mountainous Air Max graphic is visible under the outsole and on the sockliner, with a special summit-style flag accompanying the shoes to round off the inspiration.

The Nike Air Max 95 Utility “Mt. Fuji” is available at Japanese stockists like atmos for a tax-included price of ¥22,000 JPY (approximately $205 USD).
