Die Zwillingskünstler Alejandro und Vicente Perez, besser bekannt als The Perez Bros, stoßen in ihrer neuen Ausstellung bei Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles auf die Freund*innen und Kolleg*innen an, die ihr Schaffen beflügeln. Kuratiert vom Duo selbst, versammelt die Schau Gemälde, Skulpturen, Fotografien und Mixed-Media-Arbeiten von 50 Positionen – eine liebevolle Hommage an ihre kreative Community.

Unter dem Titel toO sWeeT, nimmt die Schau ihren Namen von einer Handgeste, die in den 1990ern von der Wrestling-Fraktion New World Order populär gemacht wurde. Was einst backstage als Zeichen für Kameradschaft und Brüderlichkeit begann, wurde später zu einem umfassenderen Symbol der Einheit – eine treffende Metapher für die Themen Verbundenheit, Erinnerung und Menschlichkeit, die der Ausstellung zugrunde liegen.

Zu den Highlights zählen „Dinner on the Yellow Stain“, ein Mixed-Media-Werk von Deanna Barahona, das filmische Öl-auf-Leinen „Moonlit Confidence (Take Another Pass At It)“ von Matt McCormick sowie die apokalyptischen Untertöne in Manuel Zamudios „Mañana“. An anderer Stelle treffen die ikonischen „angry eyes“ von No Fear auf Alexandre Cabanels „The Fallen Angel“ in einer grafisch-realistischen Komposition von James Supa Medrano, während Thalia Gochez ein sensibles Porträt kalifornischer Jugendlicher einfängt. Ihrer Benzin-im-Blut-DNA treu bleibend haben die Brüder außerdem Werke zusammengestellt, die der Autokultur huldigen – mit Beiträgen von Estevan Oriol, Julian Pace, Sean Hamilton, Tanner Goldbeck und Vanessa Torrez.
