Die Virgil Abloh: The Codes Ausstellung im traditionsreichen Grand Palais in Paris ist die erste große europäische Schau, die allein Ablohs Werk gewidmet ist.

Erst gestern, an dem Tag, an dem V. 55 Jahre alt geworden wäre, öffnete das Virgil Abloh Archive™ – in Partnerschaft mit Nike – die Türen zu dieser umfassenden, die gesamte Karriere abbildenden Ausstellung, die Besucher:innen mithilfe seines 20.000-Objekte-Archivs in das multidisziplinäre Vermächtnis der Legende eintauchen lässt.

Kuratiert von Chloe Sultan und Mahfuz Sultan und mit einem Rückblick auf fast zwei Jahrzehnte kreativen Schaffens, zeigt das Archiv bislang ungesehene Originalprototypen, Skizzen, Fotografien und weiteres Ephemera aus Ablohs Laufbahn sowie Stücke aus seinen persönlichen Sammlungen und seiner Bibliothek.

Als erweiterte Edition der 2022er-Ausstellung Virgil  Abloh: The Codes (ebenfalls in Paris) veranschaulicht die Schau, wie sich Ablohs „Codes“ durch all seine künstlerischen Projekte ziehen – ob im Alleingang oder in Kollaboration. Während frühere Partnerschaften in der Ausstellung verteilt gezeigt werden, werden zudem neue Kooperations-T-Shirts präsentiert, darunter Stücke von Stray Rats, Cactus Plant Flea Market, Babylon, L’Art de L’Automobile und – eigens für dieses Ereignis wiederbelebt – Sarah Andelmans Colette.

Wie zu erwarten, ließen es sich einige der prägnantesten, einflussreichsten Namen aus Mode, Sneaker-Kultur und dem zeitgenössischen Kunstbetrieb nicht nehmen, Ablohs bleibenden Einfluss zu würdigen. Unter den Gästen waren Pharrell, Shawn Stussy, Travis Scott und Futura sowie Persönlichkeiten wie George Condo, Justin Saunders, Jerry Lorenzo, Kozue Akimoto und viele mehr.
