Nike Restocks the Air Max 97 "Gundam"
Taking cues from the hit franchise’s RX-78-2 model.
Back in 2020, Nike unveiled a Gundam-inspired iteration to its classic Air Max 97 silhouette. Similar to the 98 model that flew off shelves, the retro runner took notable cues from the hit franchise’s RX-78-2 Gundam model. While the first batch of the sneakers sold out, the Swoosh is back to re-release the silhouette to cap off 2023.
Dressed in a white leather upper, the shoe gets its shine through University Red, Psychic Blue, and Black accents that wave in-and-out of the base and reflect in the dark. Additional highlights include black Nike branding along the midfoot, red overlays on the tongue and heel counter, as well as a comfy plush air unit that visibly extends across the sole unit.
Gundam fan or not, the shoe carries universal appeal through a timeless base palette that is accentuated by just the right combination of colors to give it a little flare. For those looking to purchase, the Nike Air Max 97 “Gundam” is available again online and at select retailers for $175 USD.
