The Maison Margiela x Reebok Classic Leather Tabi High is Inspired by Gladiator Sandals
And is arriving in a hand-painted “Bianchetto” style plus three monochromatic makeups.
Maison Margiela and Reebok are keeping one of 2021’s most fruitful (and active) partnerships rolling right along with a high-top, Tabi-toed take on the Classic Leather. Inspired by gladiator sandals and appearing in four colorways, the Classic Leather Tabi High uses Maison Margiela’s deconstructed decortiqué ethos to full effect, making for a high-fashion hybrid homage that’s equal parts sandal and sneaker.
Conceptualized by Maison Margiela creative director John Galliano, decortiqué products are deconstructed to their core structure and aim to show the framework of a design. On these four high-cut Classic Leathers, this means an exposed midfoot and collar, the latter of which is secured by a basketball-shoe like strap. The pieces that are left are all done up in rich leather, and Maison Margiela’s signature Tabi toe splits the forefoot. Super-sized Maison Margiela tags on the tongue round off the look.
From a color standpoint, the collection’s boldest style is a signature Bianchetto: a black base with hand-painted white details that will chip and fade with wear. The other three options are tonal red, white and black colorways. Fans of the line may remember that all four of these color schemes have appeared across standard Maison Margiela x Reebok Classic Leather Tabi drops in months past, but never have all four been used simultaneously.
The Maison Margiela x Reebok Classic Leather Tabi High will release on both the Maison Margiela web store, the Reebok online shop and retailers like HBX come June 18. “Bianchetto” is priced at $650 USD, while the other three iterations arrive at $595 USD.
