Six years after the car was originally presented as a concept, Hyundai has finally unveiled the 2022 production model of its Santa Cruz pickup truck.

Heavily inspired by the automaker’s very own Tucson SUV, the new Santa Cruz comes as a more compact pickup truck option when compared to other models on the market. Not only is it 10 to 17 inches shorter than Toyota‘s Tacoma and Nissan‘s Frontier, it also rides three to four inches lower, with a rear bed that runs 4.3 feet long. Despite its smaller size though, the truck carries up to a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine pushing out a trusty 275 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, which gives its maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.

The interior also draws heavily from its Tucson sibling, featuring the same dual-cowl dashboard along with a 10-inch digital instrument display and an 8-inch infotainment screen which can be upgraded also to 10 inches. Both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard, along with an array of safety features including lane-keep assist and automatic emergency braking. For those who want more, there’ll be other options such as adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring.

There’s currently no pricing information for Hyundai’s new Santa Cruz, but it’ll be available this summer.

Elsewhere in the automotive world, Washington state will be banning gas vehicle sales by 2030.
