Études Goes Raving "Out of the Blue" for FW21

Like many of us, the Parisian label Études misses dancing. So, for Fall/Winter 2021 it has taken to the streets of its hometown for an impromptu rave, set to the beat of Lorenzo Senni’s “Discipline of Enthusiasm” to present “Out of the Blue.”

Spotlighted in a film directed by Grégoire Dyer and choreographed by Jordan Robson, Études presents a collection filled with millennial post-grunge aesthetics and nostalgia, delivering a collaboration with the 1990’s American satirist cartoon Beavis and Butt-Head. While models are seen dancing candidly and free, clothes seem to take the center stage with their bold use of palettes, patterns and cuts.

Beavis and Butt-Head‘s involvement is seen most notably on a pair of jeans which sees its left leg sporting the characters’ faces, while the work of the American multidisciplinary artist Martine Syms also plays a considerable part in the new collection. Syms’ poem Lessons I–CLXXX and words from her monologue that was showcased in the 2018 exhibition “Grande Calme” have been reinterpreted, subsequently finding themselves printed on garments and accessories throughout. Additionally, Syms’ exhibition also inspires the quotidian objects and memories that find themselves printed all over a pair of satin trousers and a silk shirt, two pieces that are undeniable standouts for FW21.

Representing the grunge aesthetic is a selection of slashed tie-dyed hoodies, acid-wash denim pieces, checkered shirts, and striped jerseys, while formalwear is delivered in lush satin and corduroy fabrics served in vibrant tones of red and burnt orange-ish brown.

Rounding out the collection is Études signature line of eyewear, as well as a collaboration with Adieu, which we will get a closer look at soon.
