Nike By You Taps South African Artist Karabo Poppy for Air Force 1 Low Collection
Inspired by African beaded bracelets and beauty salon posters.
Karabo Poppy and Nike By You have teamed up for an Air Force 1 Low collection, inspired by the artist’s South African roots and the country’s rich culture. Nike‘s customization platform has often been used as a podium to let artists worldwide tell their stories, and Poppy’s tale is centered around two different things: the vibrant colors found in traditional African beaded bracelets and the omnipresent beauty salon posters that can be found on the streets of her Johannesburg hometown.
Each shoe uses rich tumbled leather for its base, but the embellishment options can be taken in a multitude of different ways. You can add striking red, orange, green and purple accents, or simply leave the upper tonal if you desire. Alternate textures are an option too, with the ability to add embroidered line graphics, grooming tools like combs and scissors, or striking patches to any piece of the top half. For finishing touches, the designer can also equip heel tabs and/or custom lace dubraes in both metallic and matte, which feature Poppy’s signature wordmark graphic or more salon tool-themed embellishments.
Poppy’s Air Force 1s will be made available for customization on Nike By You come November 7. Retail prices have yet to be announced.
