Universal Works Re-Crafts Two Classic Sebago Silhouettes

Drawing from the “factory mistake” concept.

Universal Works is celebrating its 10 year anniversary in 2019, so as part of the festivities the British contemporary menswear brand has teamed with Sebago for two high-quality collaborative silhouettes.

Consisting of the Cayuga Mid boot and the Seneca “Campsides,” Universal Works looked to the “factory mistake” concept — when an old cobbler selects materials that look but don’t feel the same while creating a shoe — for inspiration. This air of pieced-together, perfectly imperfect luxury permeates both designs, providing a truly unique look.

The Cayuga Mid was named after one of the glacial lakes in the state of New York, and is constructed of brown suede leather that was hand-sewn using traditional techniques. It features removable leather fringes at the bottom of its throat, while Vibram soles offer top-tier durability and traction. Raw leather laces tie the design together both literally and figuratively, and co-branded tongue tags offer flair.

Meanwhile, the Seneca “Campsides” has a sobriquet supplied by another glacial lake in NY, and the shape of a traditional moccasin with the proportions of a bowling shoe from the ’50s and ’60s. The hand-sewn suede leather upper is dressed in shades of sandy brown, while a lighter and more flexible sole aids in their versatility. The same removable fringe, tongue tags, and leather laces that appear on the Cayuga finalize the style.

Both pairs are available now at universialworks.co.uk, with the Cayuga retailing for £185 (approx. $236 USD) and the Seneca slides in at £170 (approx.$217 USD).

Elsewhere in the world of footwear, Stone Island has presented a range of garment-dyed leather boots.
