After launching a pop-up at Procell in New York last week to showcase his “The Hissing of Summer Tears” capsule, Tremaine Emory has now released the limited-edition collection online. Featuring a mix of graphic sweatshirts, T-shirts, and a zine, the assortment is a way for Emory to reflect on a milestone in American history, the 400th anniversary of when slavery first started.

Pieces are printed with floral and cotton designs and patched with “Virginia” branding, commenting on the beginnings of enslavement in the colony of Jamestown. The sleeves have then been emblazoned with “1619” in black numbers on each side, referencing the exact year that the the critical period began. This capsule kicks off an ongoing series that the designer has planned as a means of paying homage to the historic moment.

The capsule is priced from $50 USD to $160 USD, and available now at Denim Tears’ webstore.

HYPEBEAST caught up with Emory last month, in which the No Vacancy Inn co-founder talked about his creativity and family legacy.
