Netflix's 'Velvet Buzzsaw' Trailer Sees Jake Gyllenhaal as a Tormented Art Critic
A new type of horror film set in the contemporary art world.
Netflix reunites Nightcrawler‘s Jake Gyllenhaal and director Dan Gilroy in a new trailer for Velvet Buzzsaw, a horror movie set within the contemporary art scene in Los Angeles. Gyllenhaal plays a posh art critic who’s at the center of the art world’s big money artist and mega-collectors, but when a woman passes off entrancing artwork from her deceased neighbor, things get creepy.
The film looks to be trickling with symbolism and metaphors that take direct aim at the contrast between art and the commerce that surrounds it. The footage showcases a dark insight into a certain profession, similar to Nightcrawler, albeit with a more satirical tone. The film co-stars John Malkovich hot off of Netflix’s hit horror Bird Box, and Toni Collette hot off her breakout horror film Hereditary.
Check out the footage now and catch Velvet Buzzsaw on Netflix and select theaters February 1.
