Nintendo has announced its financial performance for the last fiscal year, with a 505% increase in operating profit largely attributed to the success of the Nintendo Switch. After launching the console in March last year, the Japanese firm initially aimed to sell 10 million units in the year. By the end of the year, however, that estimate rose to 15 million, with 17.79 million having been sold in the past 13 months.

Other factors driving the growth include sales of games including Super Mario OdysseyMario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2, as well as the sale of more than 5 million units of the SNES Classic Edition. Nintendo is also predicting its operating profit will continue rising over the course of the next fiscal year as it aims to sell 20 million Switches over the next year.

In less positive Nintendo Switch news, it appears that the console could be vulnerable to hacks.
