SEGA continues its 65th anniversary celebration with the opening of the “65th THE LIMITED SHOP” pop-up in Shibuya’s MIYASHITA PARK. The commemorative release is a highly physical translation of the legendary video game developer’s digital legacy, and bypasses standard merchandise tropes to focus entirely on tactile artistry and experimental garment construction. Spanning 40 completely new original items, the collection relies on a roster of specialized artists to reinterpret the brand’s expansive catalog of IPs through deeply technical, hands-on processes.
At the core of the collection’s physical execution is Nukeme’s signature glitch embroidery. Rather than utilizing standard stitching methods, the artist intentionally rewrites the binary data of computer-controlled sewing machines, forcing direct mechanical malfunctions during the production process. This aggressive, needle-glitching technique deliberately corrupts familiar SEGA imagery and logos, resulting in warped, highly textured visual elements that turn digital errors into tangible design motifs.
Further grounding the 40-piece capsule in bespoke artistry, the collection also incorporates the work of Shohei Ochiai. Known for his unpredictable forms, Ochiai applies his dynamic, heavy-pressure linework to the garments, adding an intense, hand-drawn physicality to the capsule’s otherwise digital source material. Alongside contributions from prominent creatives like Shinknowsuke, Bokunou, and Lugosis & Strato, the “65th THE LIMITED SHOP” pieces merge 65 years of arcade and console history with complex, street-ready construction.
Stay tuned for more info on the apparel. The SEGA “65th THE LIMITED SHOP” collection drops exclusively at the MIYASHITA PARK pop-up in Shibuya, which runs from May 21 to May 28.
