Summary

  • Unimatic and Norwegian Rain celebrate anniversaries with two limited-edition 300m GMT watches
  • Both feature unique oxidized copper dials and repurposed Norwegian military tent straps
  • Dubbed “The Alex” and “The T,” both models are available for pre-order from around $1,515 USD

Norwegian Rain and Unimatic have joined forces once again to celebrate a double milestone: the Italian watchmaker’s 10-year anniversary and the 15th anniversary of the Bergen-based outerwear label. This latest collaboration builds upon their shared history of blending industrial design with functional heritage, resulting in a dual release of limited-edition GMT timepieces that lean into the concept of “quiet state” oxidation. The collection highlights a deep commitment to sustainable craftsmanship, particularly through the use of repurposed materials and bespoke artisanal dial treatments.

The latest drop centers on two models, “The Alex” and “The T,” both featuring 40mm stainless steel cases with a brushed finish. “The Alex” edition is defined by a matte black dial with luminous markers and a bold orange GMT hand, while “The T” edition opts for a tonal gray dial with subtle detailing, emphasizing Norwegian Rain’s muted, weather‑inspired palette. Each model is fitted with a bi‑directional GMT bezel, allowing travelers to track multiple time zones with ease.

The design inspiration for these references is centered on the natural evolution of copper and the rugged utility of military gear. Each dial begins as a galvanized copper sheet that undergoes a meticulous, multi-step oxidation process in a salt and ammonia environment. This technique captures the metal in a pre-patina state – darker and more uniform than raw copper, yet individually distinct – ensuring that no two watches are exactly alike.

Complementing the dials is a unique “Repurposed Norwegian Military Field Tent” strap, crafted from Norwegian “Knappetelt” cotton canvas. This material provides a storied, tactical aesthetic that bridges Norwegian military history with modern Italian horology. and power reserve.

The Norwegian Rain x Unimatic collection is released in strictly limited numbers as part of a high-demand collaboration initiative. Both watches are priced at €1,290 EUR (approx. $1,515 USD) and will be available for pre-order through Norwegian Rain’s website.
