In a surprise announcement shared via Nintendo’s official X account, Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that the worldwide release of the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie has been moved up to April 30, 2027. This latest shift brings the film forward by one week from its previous slot of May 7, 2027, a move that aligns the premiere with Japan’s high-traffic Golden Week holiday. This update marks the second time the film’s release schedule has been adjusted. The project was originally slated for a March 26, 2027, debut before it was pushed back to May, 2026 back in mid-2025 to allow for more development time. This recent change, however, represents a rare “move up” in the calendar, signaling Nintendo’s growing confidence in the film’s quality.
Directed by Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) and starring Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Zelda, the adaptation carries immense weight following the box office success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Super Mario Galaxy.
