Bon Iver Curates His Ultimate Tracklist on 'VOLUMES: ONE'
The archival, 11-song offering, formally entitled ‘VOLUMES: ONE (SELECTIONS FROM MUSIC CONCERTS 2019-2023 BON IVER 6 PIECE BAND),’ sums up just what Justin Vernon feels that “Bon Iver is.”
“If I was introducing Bon Iver to someone new – if I was showing them what I think Bon Iver is – this is the album I would hand them,” said Justin Vernon of VOLUMES: ONE, the new Bon Iver project.
Which isn’t really new, per se. It’s actually fully lifted from the archives and marks Bon Iver’s first-ever non-studio album. Formally entitled VOLUMES: ONE (SELECTIONS FROM MUSIC CONCERTS 2019-2023 BON IVER 6 PIECE BAND), the record marks the start of a new, recurring archival series of releases for Bon Iver, with this penultimate 11-track offering just the beginning. Imminent non-studio LPs will feature more unpolished and unreleased cuts, plucked from live shows, raw demos, and additional previously unheard material.
The album’s 11 songs are pulled from 10 different live performances from the years of 2019 through 2023, with locations ranging from Chicago, Illinois and Los Angeles, California to Milan, Italy and Jakarta, Indonesia. Vernon actually sat down to compile VOLUMES: ONE in 2020, a press release clarifies, stating that it was six years ago when the musician began sifting through archival footage in determination to “assemble the ultimate tracklist.”
