Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York is currently hosting Falling Water Given, the first solo exhibition by Japanese artist Yuko Mohri with the gallery.

Mohri is celebrated for her ability to transform everyday materials into self-contained ecosystems that explore “invisible forces” such as gravity, magnetism and humidity. The exhibition features a range of kinetic and site-responsive installations, most notably from her Moré Moré (Leaky) series, which was inspired by the makeshift water-leak solutions found in Tokyo subway stations. In these works, Mohri orchestrates intentional water leaks that animate improvised infrastructures made of found objects and instruments discovered in New York.

The upstairs gallery presents a contemporary meditation on life and decay through the artist’s Decompositions series. These works feature ripe fruits equipped with electrodes that capture subtle moisture shifts during the slow process of decomposition. These shifts are then translated into sonic harmonies or light patterns, revealing the internal pulse of life that remains long after the fruit has been harvested. As the fruits dry, the pitch of the musical composition changes, effectively questioning the boundary between stillness and liveliness. Additionally, a new series of abstract paintings reflects the trace of the environment, where chance and atmosphere shape the matter of the image.

Falling Water Given will remain on view at the Tanya Bonakdar Gallery until April 18, 2026.
