According to the latest industry report, US recorded music wholesale revenue climbed by three percent year-over-year to reach a record $11.54 billion USD in 2025. The standout metric from the data is the explosive consumer demand for physical formats. Marking a 19th consecutive year of upward trajectory, vinyl sales officially surpassed the $1 billion USD threshold for the first time since 1983. The format successfully moved 46.8 million units, heavily bolstered by massive drops like special vinyl editions of Taylor Swift’s The Life Of A Showgirl and the Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack.

Despite the tangible success of wax pressings, digital consumption continues to anchor the market. Streaming generated $9.47 billion USD across the board. The paid subscription tier specifically accounted for $6.4 billion USD of that total, supported by a growing base of 106.5 million paid streaming accounts. Outlining the broader impact of this sustained growth, RIAA CEO Mitch Glazier noted that the music sector remains a cultural cornerstone, contributing an estimated $212 billion USD to the United States GDP while supporting more than 2.5 million domestic jobs.
