Antwerp’s MoMu fashion museum is honoring the legacy of the legendary Antwerp Six with a landmark retrospective. Opening March 28 and running through January 17, 2027, the expansive exhibition marks the 40th anniversary of the Belgian visionaries’ famous international breakthrough in London.
The exhibition is the first major retrospective dedicated collectively to Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dirk Bikkembergs, Dirk Van Saene, and Marina Yee. It explores the shared history of the six Royal Academy of Fine Arts graduates who famously piled into a rented van in 1986 to debut their radical designs at the British Designer Show, catapulting Antwerp onto the global fashion map.
Curated by Geert Bruloot alongside MoMu’s Romy Cockx and Kaat Debo, the showcase brings together original garments, sketches, accessories, and never-before-seen archival materials. Instead of functioning purely as a static retrospective, the exhibition highlights the uncompromising, individual paths of each designer while emphasizing their collective and enduring impact on the contemporary fashion landscape.
