HBO has officially unveiled Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, a brand-new sketch comedy limited series that brings Larry David back to the network. Announced during a panel at SXSW featuring David and co-creator Jeff Schaffer, the forthcoming project is being produced in collaboration with Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground.

The series is set to explore a comedic premise centered around America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. A new clip sees LD trying to celebrate V-J Day by recreating Alfred Eisenstaedt’s photograph of a US Navy sailor kissing a dental assistant, but his attempt goes awry.

The show’s official logline reads, “President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honor America’s 250th anniversary and celebrate the unique history of our nation on this special occasion.
…But then Larry David called.”

Alongside David, the cast will feature select actors from his beloved HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm as well as a roster of noteworthy guest stars. Behind the scenes, the show is written and executive produced by David and Schaffer, with Schaffer also taking on directorial duties. The executive production team is heavily bolstered by the Higher Ground camp, featuring Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Ethan Lewis, and Vinnie Malhotra. The project will run for a total of seven episodes, with new installments debuting weekly leading up to the late-summer finale.
