Poltrona Frau has expanded its ongoing dialogue with the contemporary art world by collaborating with acclaimed street artist Shepard Fairey to create the Archibald Delicate Balance Limited Edition.
This collaboration transforms the iconic Archibald armchair – originally designed in 2009 by Jean-Marie Massaud – into a profound cultural and artistic statement. The edition is a cornerstone of Poltrona Frau’s 2026 collection theme, “True Over Time,” which celebrates authenticity and enduring relevance through the passage of years. This unique piece will be officially presented during the Salone del Mobile in Milan in April 2026.
The artwork featured on the armchair is a “visual meditation” on the relationship between humanity and nature, utilizing Fairey’s signature symbolic layering. The design centers on a female figure representing Mother Nature, who interacts with delicate birds and slender flowers in a composition that draws from Fairey’s most significant previous works, such as “Make Art Not War” and “Rise Above Flower.”
To bring this vision to life, the illustration is digitally printed on Pelle Frau® ColorSphere Impact Less leather using multiple color layers to enhance depth. Selective 3D embossing is further applied to create tactile dimensionality, mimicking the textured effect of Fairey’s physical art pieces.
Produced in a strictly limited run of only 200 numbered pieces, each armchair is conceived as a collector’s item and includes a polished brass plaque and a certificate of authenticity signed by both the artist and the CEO of Poltrona Frau.
