Sony Pictures Animation is officially expanding its Marvel cinematic footprint with the development of an animated Venom movie. Following the immense global box-office success of the live-action trilogy, the studio is steering the popular symbiote franchise into the animated realm. The strategic shift aims to inject fresh narrative possibilities into the established character lore, building upon the massive critical and commercial triumphs of the studio’s Oscar-winning Spider-Verse film series.
To spearhead the new creative direction, Sony has enlisted filmmakers Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the directing duo behind the recent horror hit Final Destination: Bloodlines. While the project is currently in its earliest stages of development, the studio is reportedly opening a writers’ room to begin crafting the script. Veteran franchise producers Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are also likely to return to help oversee the transition from live-action to animation.
