Earlier this year, the Miami Design District unveiled its latest art-meets-performance collaboration, tapping Los Angeles–based artist Lauren Halsey to design a limited-edition Pro Team Training Jersey in partnership with Rapha. Created for the Miami Design District’s official cycling team participating in the Dolphins Cancer Challenge, the jersey debuted in January as part of “The Art of Giving Back,” a philanthropic initiative tied to the ride’s 16th edition.
Since launching in 2010, the Dolphins Cancer Challenge has united tens of thousands of riders across Florida and beyond, raising nearly $100 million for cancer research at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the University of Miami Health System. Proceeds from sales of Halsey’s jersey are supporting the center’s ongoing research efforts.
Worn by members of the Miami Design District team during this year’s race, the jersey is also available for purchase in-store at Rapha Miami and online via DesignDistrict.com, extending the project’s impact beyond race day.
Known for her immersive installations and deeply rooted civic engagement, Halsey translated her sculptural, socially conscious language into a wearable format for the first time. Drawing from the visual codes of South Central Los Angeles — signage, funk, geometry and layered architectural motifs — the design channels her distinct aesthetic into performance fabric built for movement. The result bridges contemporary art and technical sportswear without compromising either.
“Lauren’s work challenges boundaries between art, architecture, and activism,” said Craig Robins, President and CEO of Dacra and a longtime collector of Halsey’s work. “To have her voice represented in the Dolphins Cancer Challenge through this jersey is both meaningful and momentous.”
Halsey joins a roster of previous Miami Design District x DCC collaborators including Mario Ayala, Bisa Butler, Daniel Arsham, Urs Fischer and Harmony Korine, each of whom has brought a distinct creative edge to past editions of the ride. Following its January launch celebration at the Amiri store in the Miami Design District, the collaboration continues to carry visibility through the DCC’s “Ride With The Champs” activation this month, culminating on February 28 at Hard Rock Stadium for the 16th Dolphins Cancer Challenge.
