A 1993 Porsche 968 Turbo S has officially been listed for Gooding & Company’s upcoming Amelia Island auction, carrying a pre-sale estimate that could see it sell for as much as $1.2 million USD. Once considered an “overlooked” entry in the German marque’s history, this ultra-limited transaxle sports car—one of only 14 built—is now positioned to set a new market record for front-engined Porsches.
This particular example is distinguished by its “Paint to Sample” Zermatt Silver exterior, paired with a cabin upholstered in black leather and corduroy. The vehicle’s provenance is equally notable; it was ordered new by Czech tennis legend and Grand Slam winner Helena Suková, who kept the car in Monaco until 2014. Documentation indicates the vehicle has had only four owners since new and shows just 18,872 miles on the odometer.
Under the hood, the Turbo S represents the pinnacle of the 968 platform’s engineering. It is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-four engine enhanced with a KKK turbocharger, an air-to-air intercooler, and a modified engine management system. These upgrades deliver 305 horsepower and 369 ft-lbs of torque, allowing for a 0-60 mph sprint in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 175 mph. The design also integrates lightweight components from the Club Sport model, bridging the gap between road car and racer.
The 1993 Porsche 968 Turbo S goes under the hammer during the Amelia Island auctions on March 5 and 6.
