Six years after his GRAMMY-winning LP, Thundercat has announced his fifth studio album, Distracted, set for release on April 3 via Brainfeeder. The project marks a new creative chapter for the bassist, who partnered with pop superproducer Greg Kurstin to craft the record. While Kurstin provided the primary sonic direction, the album also features production from longtime collaborators like Flying Lotus and Kenny Beats.
To coincide with the announcement, Thundercat shared the lead single, “I Did This To Myself,” featuring Lil Yachty. The track explores the awkwardness of modern socialization, specifically focusing on the unrequited pursuit of a digital-age muse. This theme of 21st-century distraction serves as the album’s core, positioned between the frenetic energy of Drunk and the somber tones of It Is What It Is.
The guest list for Distracted is equally impressive, boasting appearances from WILLOW, Channel Tres, Tame Impala, and A$AP Rocky. Notably, the album includes a previously unreleased collaboration with the late Mac Miller. Beyond the music, the visual identity of the era is captured through artwork by photographer Neil Krug.
Stream “I Did This To Myself” on Spotify and Apple Music. Thundercat’s Distracted drops April 3.
