Priscilla Tey Paints Porsche’s Path Into the Year of the Horse
The Singapore artist blends surreal textures with festive reds and golds in a striking mural.
In a celebration of both cultural heritage and racing history, Porsche has partnered with an acclaimed Singaporean artist to unveil a new mural titled “Spirit of Legends.” Displayed at the recently launched Porsche at Jewel retail store in Jewel Changi Airport, the artwork marks a major cultural commission for the brand. The mural simultaneously celebrates the Lunar New Year of the Horse and Singapore Art Week 2026, while also paying tribute to the 75th anniversary of Porsche Motorsport, commemorating the marque’s first class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1951.
The mural features three galloping horses as its primary motif, a direct reference to the rearing horse at the center of the iconic Porsche crest, which itself was derived from the city seal of Stuttgart. Rendered in Tey’s signature whimsical and abstract style, the horses symbolize strength, agility, and momentum. Notably, each horse captures the specific stripes of the car it represents, with one “horse that has arrived at success” looking back at its journey – a nod to the phrase “madao cheng gong” – while another represents the “horse in first place” (“yi ma dang xian“). Other Easter eggs hidden in the artwork include a deconstructed Porsche Crest alongside various parts of the Porsche 956 livery.
Priscilla Tey, known for her imaginative illustrations and textile-inspired works, brings a distinctive voice to the collaboration. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, she has exhibited internationally and is recognized for her ability to blend narrative storytelling with tactile visual elements. Her practice often explores themes of play, curiosity and transformation, making her an apt choice for a project that bridges tradition with innovation.
Anchoring the installation is the Porsche 956, a historic racing prototype on loan from the Porsche Museum and currently displayed in the store’s “Culture Garage”. The 956 is one of the most successful cars in motorsport history, having achieved four consecutive overall victories at Le Mans between 1982 and 1985. Tey’s mural takes its color palette directly from the car’s legendary Rothmans racing livery, weaving blue, white, red, and gold hues into the composition. Subtle visual details throughout the piece also pay homage to historic elements, such as the famous “Nobody’s Perfect” poster that celebrated Porsche’s 1983 dominance.
Accompanying the mural is a capsule collection of limited-edition merchandise, including T-shirts, thermal mugs, and keychains. Additionally, a set of Lunar New Year Red Packets inspired by the mural’s design is available exclusively at Porsche at Jewel, where the artwork will remain on public display until March 31, 2026.
