Karimoku has released the three ASICS Editions, a collaborative furniture series that merges sustainable innovation with refined Japanese craftsmanship.
The release centers on three specific models: the modular Castor Lobby Sofa and two versions of the Polar Lounge Chair (in Small and Large) – each designed with cushions made from repurposed ASICS footwear. Dead stock and sample shoes are dismantled, crushed and sorted, with EVA foam re-engineered into a hybrid cushioning structure. This process not only extends the lifecycle of unused materials but also embodies circular economy principles, transforming performance technology into everyday comfort.
The Castor Lobby Sofa and Polar Lounge Chairs highlight Karimoku’s expertise in woodwork and ergonomic design, paired with ASICS’ advanced material engineering. The cushions combine cotton filling with EVA foam chips and a compressed foam sheet, achieving a balance of softness, resilience, and durability. Upholstery options include textiles developed in collaboration with Danish manufacturer Kvadrat, chosen to evoke sporting atmospheres while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic. Each piece is finished with a special embroidered tag featuring both ASICS and Karimoku New Standard logos, symbolizing the shared values of innovation, sustainability, and design integrity.
The aforementioned pieces are available through Karimoku’s online shop and select global retailers, with prices ranging from ¥216,700 – ¥257,400 JPY (approx. $1,414 – $1,680 USD).
