The social satire that turned luxury travel into a high-stakes drama is crossing the Atlantic. For its fourth installment, HBO’s The White Lotus is setting its sights on the glitz and glamour of the French Riviera. Production is slated to center around the Château de La Messardière in Saint-Tropez, a majestic 19th-century castle hotel that perfectly encapsulates the “old money” aesthetic of the region.
This move to France marks a significant geographic shift for the anthology series. In the past, creator Mike White has used iconic backdrops to dissect class and privilege — the tropical shores of Maui, Hawaii defined Season 1; the volcanic cliffs of Taormina, Sicily hosted the chaos of Season 2; and the spiritual, lush landscapes of Koh Samui and Phuket, Thailand serve as the setting for the third season. By choosing Saint-Tropez, the series moves into the heart of European high society, where the azure waters and private beach clubs provide a fresh playground for a new group of ill-fated travelers.
The Château de La Messardière, part of the ultra-exclusive Airelles collection, offers 32 acres of secluded gardens of parasol pines, cypress trees and jasmine and a hilltop view of the Mediterranean—the ideal fortress for the wealthy elite to unravel. Filming is expected to commence in April 2026, with Alexander Ludwig and AJ Michalka already confirmed to join the ensemble cast. As the production expands its footprint to include scenes in Paris, Season 4 promises to be the show’s most sprawling and opulent investigation into the dark side of paradise yet. Casting is reportedly under way for the fourth season.
