Summary

  • Vacheron Constantin celebrates 270 years with its double-sided “Tribute to the Quest of Time” watch and the unique La Quête du Temps Mécanique d’Art astronomical clock
  • Both exemplify the Maison’s mastery of haute horlogerie and decorative artistry

To celebrate its 270th anniversary, Vacheron Constantin unveils two landmark creations: the Métiers d’Art “Tribute to the Quest of Time” double-sided wristwatch and the unique La Quête du Temps Mécanique d’Art astronomical clock — each a testament to the Maison’s union of haute horlogerie and decorative artistry.

The “Tribute to the Quest of Time” wristwatch is powered by the new manually wound Calibre 3670 — a feat of miniaturization housing 512 components and four patent applications inside a 43mm white-gold case. Drawing from the Maison’s heritage and archives, the timepiece’s design tells the story of Vacheron Constantin’s centuries-long quest for precision and its contribution to the evolution of timekeeping.  Its front dial presents a golden human figure whose outstretched arms serve as double retrograde hour and minute hands, switchable between continuous and on-demand display, accompanied by twin power-reserve arcs and a three-dimensional precision moon phase against the Geneva sky of September 17, 1755.

Turn the case over and a sapphire sky chart emerges, tracking sidereal time and real-time constellations with an accuracy of one day over 9,130 years. Executed in guilloché, engraving and grand feu enamel after three years of development – and backed by a six-day power reserve – this 20-piece series is priced on request.

La Quête du Temps Mécanique d’Art redefines mechanical spectacle after seven years of multidisciplinary collaboration. Its 6,293-component movement incorporates 23 complications, seven watchmaking patents and a life-sized Astronomer automaton driven by 158 cams, all housed within a rock-crystal and lapis lazuli architecture destined for the Louvre’s Mécaniques d’Art exhibition this fall.

Perched atop the clock, the Astronomer automaton enacts 144 unique gestures across three choreographed sequences, synchronized with an integrated mechanical music machine, while the two-tier plinth below showcases ornamental cabochons representing Earth and planets. This modern “merveille” rekindles the spirit of 18th-century horological marvels, reflecting Vacheron Constantin’s enduring quest to unite human ingenuity with the cosmos.
