LOVEISENOUGH and USM Present a Contemplative Journey in ‘THE ROOM YOU CARRY’

Loren Daye’s LOVEISENOUGH studio has partnered with Swiss furniture innovator USM Modular Furniture to create THE ROOM YOU CARRY — an immersive installation opening later this week at USM’s SoHo showroom. Drawing on Daye’s background in hospitality, retail and residential design, the project transforms the space into a “nomadic city capsule,” where visitors experience a personal, participatory living environment that reflects Daye’s wandering spirit and empathetic design practice.

Rooted in ideas of essentialist shelter and hybrid architecture, the installation reimagines USM’s modular system as an architectural material rather than mere furniture. A tent-like structure with a canvas roof anchors one corner, while paravents and casegoods in raw steel, glass and chrome form protective surfaces and partitions. Each element is enhanced by magnetic, hand-carved wood accessories and crafted from reclaimed timber beams and punctuated by Daye’s own memento — grounding the exhibit in the Catskills landscape where LOVEISENOUGH is based.

To bring the concept to life, Daye collaborated with Matt Hutchinson of PATH to 3D-model unexpected material applications, blurring boundaries between soft and hard elements. The contemplative atmosphere is furthered by ambient audio and video recordings from wildlife photographer Jamie Kennard, immersing guests in the tension between urban density and natural refuge. As Daye reflects, “How wild can you be inside a hard set of limiting parameters?”— an inquiry at the heart of the installation’s minimalist ethos.

Jon Thorson, CEO and Brand Experience Director of USM North America, underscores the collaboration’s significance: “This is one of the most expansive and conceptually rich installations USM USA has undertaken — and the first time in many years we’ve collaborated with an interior designer.”

Open through the end of 2025, THE ROOM YOU CARRY invites guests to witness the evolving styling of interior accessories and to reevaluate how design shapes human behavior in both rural and urban contexts.
