Luxury spoke Spanish this fashion month. Against the backdrop of Manhattan’s iconic skyline, Mexican designer Patricio Campillo unveiled his collection “Repetición” at New York Fashion Week, a manifesto that placed Latin America on the runway.

While NYFW has been a stage dominated by Anglo-American voice, Spring/Summer 2026 marked a cultural shift helmed by Campillo. Latin America was not just invited to the table; it was celebrated front row. With the support of Tequila Don Julio, Campillo started a political conversation with Mexican heritage at the fore.

From Roots to Runway

Boundary-breaking design always starts at the root. For Campillo, that root is deeply personal. His childhood in Zacualpan de Amilpas, surrounded by charros and tradition, shaped his creative universe. “Repetición” explored the ritual of memory: repetition not as redundancy, but as construction.

The collection translated this philosophy into powerful tailoring: sharp-shouldered jackets, elongated trousers, and cropped charro-inspired blazers, all in constant dialogue with artisanal weaving, felting, and embroidery techniques.

Agave as a Metaphor

The show’s most symbolic moment arrived with a piece crafted from agave fibers sourced at Hacienda Primavera, where Tequila Don Julio is made. Spun into thread and transformed into fabric, the agave plant became a metaphor for Campillo’s cultural statement on the runway.

Much like tequila, Campillo’s work insists that true artistry transcends only when created with passion. Or, as Don Julio’s global campaign reminds us: Por Amor.

Por Amor a Latinoamérica

For Don Julio, the runway was more than sponsorship. It was a manifesto.

“We believe in the power of our roots and how they inspire the future. Latin America is not just a region — it’s a movement infiltrating creative industries worldwide: fashion, gastronomy, mixology. Patricio Campillo is proof that tradition can evolve into art and claim global stages — all Por Amor,” said Diego Oseguera, Head of Culture & Entertainment at Diageo Latin America.

This vision extended beyond Campillo himself. Collaborations with artisans from Oaxaca, Querétaro, and Yucatán brought ancestral techniques, pedal loom weaving, ixtle fibers, feather art, and goldsmithing into direct conversation with SS26 runway silhouettes.
