The Hypegolf Clubhouse Classic Takes Over Long Island

Proving competitive golf can be approachable for all levels.

It’s not every day golf’s most historic team competition comes to the New York metro area. Actually, it’s never happened before. That energy set the stage for us to bring Hypegolf Clubhouse back to NYC for the first time in three years. Since opening at the end of August, the space has been our home base with retail hours, drops and community events. But just having a pop-up didn’t feel like enough. To mark five years of Hypegolf, we decided to throw something new: the Clubhouse Classic at Harbor Links Golf Course, a public course less than half an hour from Bethpage Black.

Anyone who’s been to a Hypegolf Invitational knows what to expect: activations, music, food trucks. This was different. We leaned into competition for the first time with a 6-6-6 format: holes 1–6 played as four-person best ball (taking one low score), 7–12 as two-person scramble, and 13–18 as a classic four-person scramble. And as it turned out, the new format—even if a bit intimidating on the surface—was a huge hit.

The day started with check-in gifts we’d put some serious thought into: sunglasses from our new Oakley collaboration and a Melin bucket hat that ended up being perfect in the light rain. PXG had new clubs out on the range along with a team of fitters, while Technics built out a DJ booth that kept the energy high. By the time the shotgun went off at noon, foursomes featuring the likes of Evan Mock, cricketer Steve Smith, celebrity photographer Diggzy, Kith COO Nick Annacone, Hypebeast CEO Kevin Ma, and golf content creators Holein1trickshots and Kaitleen Shee met a course stocked with Johnnie Walker Blue Label nips and Michelob ULTRA on ice in Yeti coolers at every turn.

The golf wrapped around five, but no one left right away. We moved inside for happy hour, dinner and prizes, with support from Whoop, Hyperice, Dimple & Divot, Ninja and more. For us, the Clubhouse Classic was a way to show competitive golf can still feel approachable for golfers of all levels. Five years in, that balance of sport and culture is still what Hypegolf is all about.
