Summary

  • Lil Nas X pleaded not guilty to four felony charges, including battery of a police officer
  • His bail was set at $75,000 USD and requires him to attend a drug rehabilitation program
  • The charges stem from an August 21 incident where he reportedly charged at police

Lil Nas X has pleaded not guilty to a total of four felony charges after he reportedly assaulted police officers last week.

As per Reuters, the GRAMMY winner — real name Montero Lamar Hill — was charged with three counts of battery of a police officer and one count of resisting an officer. His bail was set at $75,000 USD, with a judge also adding that the artist is required to attend an outpatient drug rehabilitation program.

If convicted, Lil Nas X could spend up to five years in prison.

While authorities suggest that the artist was under the influence of drugs during the ordeal, his lawyer, Christy O’Connor, disputed this. “This is just an aberrant episode in an otherwise productive life,” she said.

In the early hours of August 21, Lil Nas X was seen walking along the streets of Studio City in Los Angeles wearing nothing but his underwear and a pair of cowboy boots. He reportedly charged at officers when they attempted to take him into custody.

The “Old Town Road” artist’s father, Robert Stafford, spoke to the media outside of the courthouse. He shared that Lil Nas X was “very remorseful for what happened,” adding, “He’s going to get the help that he needs.” He continued, “Just keep him in your prayers.”
